DoughtyOne your “new posts to you” flag must be red all the time since you started running this poll.
Is Cruz support dropping & Trump’s climbing on FR?
Yep, it is. There's been a pretty massive swing in this poll since it first began over 60 days ago.
Since over 4 out of 5 of us participating in the nightly caucus are now supporting Trump... I try to remind myself to go easy on any Cruz supporter who is not being completely obnoxious. I don’t think that we want threads here to just be echo chambers where we all just reinforce each others’ opinions. It is good to hear what those who have come to different conclusions about this race are actually thinking.
There are a nasty handful who refuse to be gracious in the face of overwhelming reality, while a small (but larger) number are simply defiant against the odds, and want to rehash spent arguments with you, endlessly.
Then there are those who are somewhere out on a cosmic orbit, and can't be reasoned with or reached in any fashion.
Of all those, only the first group are deserving of the backlash they get around here.
That is an accurate assessment, but I am still trying to go out of my way to be respectful. One of my best friends is still clinging to the hope that Cruz will be able to reach the magic number before the convention. Last night on Hannity Cruz was claiming the same thing and I found it to be very disingenuous. I was disappointed that even Rush is still going along with this charade. Cruz is smart enough to know better. At this point he is being used as a tool by the GOPe to deny Trump the nomination and he knows it. Is he foolish enough to think that Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and the others will try to steer the nomination in a brokered convention to him? I am sure that a lot of backroom promises have been made, but still?
Wow, that lasted all of two posts
I don’t get to vote in the primary for 2 1/2 more months...so I am advocating that nobody drop out. If this is going to be a $$$ contest then have every state vote on the same day.
Did you advocate that at the beginning of the race, when there were 17 candidates running on the Republican side?
Probably not, so what's changed? Fewer candidates from which to choose?
Alright, but think of it this way -- you get a chance to choose from the strongest, most durable of the bunch. The rest were just clogging up the contest, and taking attention away from the real contenders anyway.
That's a better perspective, don't you think?
Thing is, these elections are very dynamic. They don't progress along the carefully laid out timetable of the national parties, so the field could well be whittled down to just two, by the time you have your opportunity to vote. That's just the way it is.
Think of all the other Americans who are looking back at the votes they already cast, and who are wishing they had your kind of opportunity. I guarantee you, a lot of them would vote differently, if they knew then, what they know now.
As far as Cruz making the claim on Hannity that he still has a chance, I agree. That’s just disingenuous to the max, but I don’t know what else he can do at this point, but continue to appear confident.
Ted’s just in too deep to admit the obvious to others, even if it’s starkly apparent to him. He’s made far too many promises, accepted far too many endorsements, gotten far too much financial backing from influential donors, and raised expectations far too high of what he can achieve.
It’s gotta be like Groundhog Day in his life right now. Every day he wakes up, and he’s still in the same horrifying nightmare. He knows he can’t win, but he can’t quit, either.
Wasn't advocating for no "dropouts" then...I still had 17 choices. ;-)
...so the field could well be whittled down to just two, by the time you have your opportunity to vote. That's just the way it is.
But I saw that you were advocating that I have NO choice by primary (see post #8)...a bit irritating to have NO choice of party candidate.
“...a bit irritating to have NO choice of party candidate.”
That’s not even possible. As long as there are at least two candidates remaining in the race when it’s your turn to vote, you’ve got a choice.
I don’t know what else to tell you. Move to Iowa so you can vote first.
I said in my original post that “I try to remind myself to go easy on any Cruz supporter who is not being completely obnoxious.” Agreeing with the reality of the currently situation is not picking on Cruz supporters.
I know exactly why Cruz has been appealing to most of us around here at least initially. But at this point Ted has no realistic chance of getting enough delegates to get the nomination before the convention. Despite Mitt Romney and company supporting him now they will not be supporting him during the convention, they are only using him as a tool to try and keep Trump from getting enough delegates. The real hypocrisy and shallowness is evident if one looks at Romney supporting Kasich in Ohio and then 3 days later Cruz in Utah.
As far as Cruz making the claim on Hannity that he still has a chance, I agree. Thats just disingenuous to the max, but I dont know what else he can do at this point, but continue to appear confident.
That is very true... what else can he do? He is just being used as a tool by the GOPe at this point to prevent Trump from getting the delegates he needs. Last week Romney was supporting Kasich this week it is Cruz. Lindsay Graham is equally disingenuous.
I agree kasich should go... Then let the numbers fall where they may. Cruz has said he will support trump if he is the nominee.
But I am still standing by Cruz.
I certainly will be supporting Cruz if he is the nominee... it just doesn’t seem very likely at this point. If he does get the nomination he is going to need a lot of help to beat Hillary.
