“Sorry to hear about your brother. But am encouraged by his courage re: exercise.
I exercise everyday. I never get so much as a cold or flu, unless I stop.”

That was years ago. I have exercised daily for 34 years, and like you I avoid most colds.

However last December some awful cough type colds went around, and one of them knocked me down fairly hard.

Heading out now, to walk 5 miles.

To date I have not heard a definitive medical statement, about the causes of leukemia, or how to avoid it. The only idea within the family, is he used to surf near the San Onofre nuclear power plant.

LOL. Please stop spreading this nonsense.

1. There has been ZERO clinical studies that show an alkaline diet has ANY anticancer benefits.

2. The stomach uses ACID to digest foods. The amount of acid that is normally in your gut is many orders more than the content of your food.

3. Many acidic foods have significant ANTIOXIDANT properties, which are beneficial for PREVENTING CANCER.

4. An alkaline diet has inadequate PROTEIN content for REPAIRING bone and muscle lost during cancer.

Still not relevant to even the chat section.

And I exercise quite consistently, thank you.

Perhaps you should complain to Jim Rob.

No problem with where the article was, but the article itself was worthless.

Have any more snide comments you want to make?

This freeper (fortheDeclaration) has chastised me for posting an article that suggests that exercise might somehow help in the fight against cancer.

He has said that such an article has no worth at Free Republic.

I submit this matter to you for your consideration.

I posted this article in "General/Chat" because I believe our affection for each other means that we would share any information that might improve the lives of our freeper friends.

I hate to bother you with an insignificant matter...but what is more significant than our affection for each other and our desire to help the same.

I said the article was a waste of time because who doesn't know that exercise is important to one's health!

I didn't attack you for posting the article, I attacked the article for telling us what is common sense!

Get over yourself!

What next, an article telling us that scientists have concluded we need water to live!

This is what I posted in response, And why is this considered news?

I didn't say a word about the poster.

It isn't news because it is common sense.

To summarize, it appears that the doctor interviewed is finding evidence that vigorous exercise not only can help to defend against the onset of cancer but can be useful in its treatment.

fortheDeclaration — I recommend getting on sunkenciv’s ping list. Then you will get to the hard hitting news in a hurry.

I myself check Drudge whenever I get online to find a lot of breaking news even faster than this forum.

This forum has a tradition of posting just about any topic. That’s why there’s a ‘chat’ category. There’s the Hobbit Hole. Philosophy. The Canteen. Etc.

We used to be able to set the listings to filter out ‘chat’. Not sure if we still can.

As I understand it, malignant cancer often starts as muscle cells, right?

Interesting.

Also, perpetual cell growth disruption a single point can eventually confuse that cell growth.

But I don’t really know that much about cancer. Might be way off the mark.

I saw that article last week I believe.

As an aside, I notice that when I exercise vigorously--which is nearly all the time--I never get cold sores. For that matter, I never get colds or flu either.

When I stopped exercising a few years ago because of a busy schedule, I immediately got a cold.

Yes, exercize raises the immune system. Blood flow improves. And it raises metabolism.

Muscle mass also helps prevent weight gain although when you try to diet and exercize at the same time it drives you nuts because muscle weighs more than fat!

To retain muscle mass you need protein. Lots of it. Protein also improves brain activity. Uncooked enzymes can be found in homemade eggnog [uncooked eggs] and uncooked nuts. I haven’t had either in a long time. Silly me.

Laughter also helps fight cancer.

And one thing I learned last night — holding another mammal in your arms [human, pet, otherwise] reduces heart beat and lowers blood pressure. Probably an electromagnetic bond.

Laughter also helps fight cancer.

Absolutely it does.

Reminds me of one of my favorite books...Anatomy of an Illness by Norman Cousins.
