Two thugs thought they had an easy score when they saw a single man eating in his car in a Whataburger parking lot in Dallas, Texas. They were very, very wrong.
Two armed robbers picked the wrong victim in northwest Dallas.
Police said they approached a man eating his dinner in the parking lot of Whataburger at Inwood Road and Lemmon Avenue and tried to rob him around 1 a.m.Thursday morning.
The man was an off-duty, but armed security guard. He shot and killed one of the robbers. The other ran away.
Armed robbers fully expect compliance. If a trained victim with a plan of action feigns compliance before suddenly and smoothly responding, they quite often overwhelm the criminals both physically and mentally.

Bad victim selection process.
mentally is probably not a difficult task
Yep. The survivor can work on that.
I love these stories with a happy ending.
I hate that the dead perp made bad life choices; but the
more news stories we read like this, maybe the fewer news
stories will have to be written in future.
I can’t believe anyone still has the balls to break-and-enter or commit armed robbery in Texas. citizens there still know and exercise their rights.
I’m an outsider and I’m an admirer.
IIRC, WhatABurger had made some kind of corporate statement opposing carry on their premises.
Choosing to rob anyone in Texas is the act of an absolute moron. At least in Texas the 2nd isn’t unconstitutionally infringed by the treasonists like it is in other states. Victims ARE allowed to defend themselves rather than die so as to not offend the criminal.
Texas gun laws.........
Q: How long is the waiting period to buy a Handgun / Shotgun / Rifle in Texas?
A: There is no waiting period for purchasing a firearm in the state of Texas.
Q: I just moved to Texas, do I have to register my firearms?
A: No, there is no state registration of firearms.
Q: I just inherited / bought a gun from someone in Texas, do I need to transfer the gun to my name?
A: No, there is no state registration of firearms, thus there is no requirement transfer the firearm in your name.
Q: What is required to purchase a firearm in the state of Texas?
A: You will need a valid state-issued ID. Many FFLs will not sell to out-of-state residents. This is due to the FFLs requirement to uphold your resident states gun laws, and the inherent complexity associated with many states.
Q: Can I carry a firearm on my person?
A: Yes, with proper licensing (Concealed Handgun License) you may carry a pistol or revolver on your person so long as it remains concealed. Long guns (rifles / shotguns) do not have to be concealed, but must be carried in a manner not calculated to cause alarm, and do not require a license.
Q: Can I strap a gun on my hip in Texas?
A: No, with some exceptions. Open carry is not legal in Texas until January 1st, 2016, but you may open carry on your own property, in the commission of a sporting activity (competition, shooting ranges, etc.), and while engaged in hunting.
Q: Can I carry a firearm in my vehicle?
A: Yes. With the passage of the Motorist Protection Act you may now readily carry handguns, loaded and within reach, so long as you conceal the firearm. Long guns (rifles / shotguns) do not have to be concealed and may be loaded and within reach.
Q: Are machine guns / suppressors / short-barreled firearms, etc. legal in the state of Texas?
A: Yes. All NFA rules apply. See this FAQ for more info regarding Class III / Title II items.
Q: Are assault weapons banned in Texas?
A: No. Texas abides by Federal law which at this time has no restrictions on so-called assault weapons such as semi-auto AR15, FAL, G3 / HK91 rifles.
Q: Is there a limit on the number of rounds a magazine may hold?
A: No. The only limit on magazines in Texas is the number of rounds you are physically able to cram into the thing and/or carry and/or afford.
Feel good story!
Happy endings like this always make me tear up a big... Good job citizen.
Dang, I miss whataburger...
Former cowtown resident...
I think the company opposes open carry only.
“The other ran away.”
Yes, and at a very high rate of speed too, I’d wager.
Whataburger had some guys come into a store carrying ARs IIRC who were “making a statement”. I think that is just stupid.
Never have heard of them complaining about concealed carry.
Regarding out of state sales, when it comes to a policy for chain stores some of that depends on the district managers decisions.
The man was an off-duty, but armed security guard. He shot and killed one of the robbers. The other ran away.#1, how's the dead perp supposed to get his money now? And #2, the off-duty armed guard needs a little more range time.
When is Texas going to get Constitutional Carry? Or, as some call it, permit-less carry.
I was born and raised in Texas, Northwest of Denton.
But have lived here in Idaho for the last 20 years.
Here we have Open Carry and Conceal carry with a permit.
But that is changing soon. Our Senate just overwhelmingly passed Constitutional Carry, and it will pass the House in the next week or so. we are hoping our Governor will sign it into law in April.
That means any adult Idahoan, who does not have any criminal or mental restrictions, will be able to Conceal Carry without a permit of any kind inside or outside city limits across the state,
