Has Brian Johnson Been ‘Kicked to the Curb’ by AC/DC? (maybe, maybe not)

Brian Johnson’s hearing loss may not be as bad as initial reports suggested — but AC/DC might be moving on without him anyway.

Word of Johnson’s reportedly tenuous future comes courtesy of comedian Jim Breuer, a friend of the singer who discussed their latest visit during an episode of his The Metal in Me podcast, which you can stream below. According to Breuer, whose commentary was earlier reported by the Canton Repository, Johnson has essentially been “kicked to the curb” by group leader Angus Young after fronting AC/DC for 36 years.

UPDATE: Breuer has since posted a series of follow-up comments on Facebook. The first one says, “I definitely exaggerate and sometimes I get a little carried away!! And this was one of those times!” In the second, posted a few hours later, Breuer says, “All Brian said was “I feel down & want to finish the job and hope it happens!” The rest was ME GOING OFF.” Then, in a video, Breuer adds, “I’m not quoting Brian Johnson. It’s me venting. He didn’t say a lot of those things.” …

Aren’t they going to lose their shirts when they try and sell tickets for “AC/DC featuring Mike”?

Well they could but they are being upfront with the fans. Imagine if 3/4 of the show was Mike and 1/4 was this guy.

Based on Led Zeppelin touring with not the original drummer , The Stones without Wyman ...etc....you wont know until they get out there but the show will go on with more certainty.

Its their responsibility to make sure that “Mike” is up to snuff for the job. Unlike Van Craplen who didnt even bother rehearsing yet packed them in to the worst rock music ever this last year.

But as someone posted they are looking to make $180 mil. They need to be checked for health, sign committments, and live up to their bargain. If word gets out the first couple shows that Mike is good. They should be okay.

The worst thing this guy did was leak his condition to the press. That is admission hes not up for it and there is a liability no venue will want to take on if he goes deaf at their facility.

Maybe they could hire Marc Storace for the tour. I was playing Krokus at work and a co-worker asked me, “What AC/DC album is that from?”

I hope not. Scott is gone, for decades now. I would hate to see Johnson go as well. Bands go through these ups and downs from time to time. It would be a shame for this to take a permanent bad turn.

I’ve seen them twice. Amazing performers.

No, I didn’t mean it like that. My comment was if they changed AC/DC now.

Didn’t a band member get in trouble for murder for hire?

From the Lefty rag Rolling Stone:

Phil Rudd Talks ‘Crock of Shit’ Arrest, Hopes to Return to AC/DC

“Just give me five minutes in a room with [Angus Young] and I’ll get my job back,” former AC/DC drummer says. “I promise ya”

By Jason Newman August 10, 2015

UPDATE: A New Zealand court dismissed Phil Rudd’s appeal October 5th, ruling that the drummer must serve out the rest of his house arrest. Rudd’s lawyers argued that the sentence was harmful to his music career as it prevented the drummer from reuniting with AC/DC. However, the judge rejected that argument, saying in a statement that there was no evidence to support that Rudd’s AC/DC band mates even wanted him back, New Zealand’s 3 News reports.

For embattled former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd, this was not how 2015 was supposed to go. In an alternate universe, the 61-year-old musician would have already traipsed through Europe with his band on their Rock or Bust tour, delivering a career-spanning set that may be short on surprises, but long on grand spectacle and bombastic rock tradition. He would have currently been rehearsing and preparing for the group’s upcoming North American leg, performing classic rock chestnuts alongside the band’s latest album, to which he contributed in 2014.
