Has Brian Johnson Been ‘Kicked to the Curb’ by AC/DC? (maybe, maybe not)

Brian Johnson’s hearing loss may not be as bad as initial reports suggested — but AC/DC might be moving on without him anyway.

Word of Johnson’s reportedly tenuous future comes courtesy of comedian Jim Breuer, a friend of the singer who discussed their latest visit during an episode of his The Metal in Me podcast, which you can stream below. According to Breuer, whose commentary was earlier reported by the Canton Repository, Johnson has essentially been “kicked to the curb” by group leader Angus Young after fronting AC/DC for 36 years.

UPDATE: Breuer has since posted a series of follow-up comments on Facebook. The first one says, “I definitely exaggerate and sometimes I get a little carried away!! And this was one of those times!” In the second, posted a few hours later, Breuer says, “All Brian said was “I feel down & want to finish the job and hope it happens!” The rest was ME GOING OFF.” Then, in a video, Breuer adds, “I’m not quoting Brian Johnson. It’s me venting. He didn’t say a lot of those things.” …

It was before Brian Johnson, who was hired while Bon Scott was still warm on the slab.

Bon Scott was the only front man for that band.

I get a hernia just listening to Brian Johson.

I was a major AC-DC fan in my youth.. I like the first few albums with Brian, but if they ever hire a new singer.. I would love to see someone that sounds more like Bon step in.

It isn’t AC/DC without Bon Scott either. I love Brian Johnson but the show must go on.

It was actually two months after Bon’s funeral (who was cremated). And the band did briefly consider breaking up.

I prefer pre-Perry Journey, but that’s me.

The amount of money committed for that tour , and contracts cannot be jeapordized if hes not 100%. Its not a personal thing but you cant risk it. Both for him and the band. Not a big deal.

Journey might be the first band that just keeps going. I wouldn’t be shocked if some iteration isn’t still around in 200 years.

You get the point. Nobody in that band is irreplaceable, apparently, other than Angus. His brother is out of the band because of illness and the drummer Phil Rudd was told he was canned on the eve of a tour. Its the Angus Young Band, period. Sorry Brian, maybe you can revive Geordie.

Arnel Pineda is actually a pretty good replacement for Perry, and sounds amazingly like him. I wasn’t a big fan of Journey in the day but they’ve grown on me over the years.

Bon Scott was one of the best frontmen ever. His voice was actually pretty darn good if you listen to some of the stuff he did pre-AC/DC.

They're not kids anymore. Malcolm has dementia, Phil is a drug-addled mess, and now Brian. It might be time to toss in the towel and call it a very successful run.
