When Trump Blamed Pamela Geller For Inciting Violence
American Thinker ^ | March 15, 2016 | Daniel John Sobieski

Donald Trump, who denies that his provocative and sometimes profane rhetoric (particularly against Muslims_ has anything to do with violence and protests at his University of Illinois-Chicago rally, once blamed conservative activist Pamela Geller for provoking an attempted armed assault by – wait for it – unnecessarily provoking Muslims.

As Gideon Resnick noted last December in the Daily Beast, pre-candidate Trump was not as passionately concerned with Pamela Geller’s First Amendment free speech rights as he now is about his own:

I wondered if anyone would ever discuss Trump saying Geller was "inciting" violence by "taunting" Muslims.

I've never forgotten that he "rolled over" when Terrorists tried to kill Americans.

Besides, Trump’s disagreeing with Pam Geller’s actions is his exercise to free speech.

And your new nickname should be “Free speech for me and not for thee”.

Trump disagreed with the tactic used by Pam Geller. I disagree with Trump on this, so what.

They were lucky only terrorist died that day. Many more folks could have been killed. Easy to talk now about since no one other than the jihadis got killed.

The point is, in this country, having a cartoon contest should not be considered taunting, by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes, it’s absolute.

But I do have to live with the forseeable consequences of that speech and be prepared to take some responsibility for them.

Baloney.... Check my posting history..

When the Chicago debacle broke Friday, I told Trump supporters here that several of us Cruz supporters have their back on this one. . Don't group me on that level.

. I do have problems like the one responding to me earlier who thinks Trump is pristine, and had no problem in Trump supporting denying my ability to display the CBF to honor my ancestors. It's hypocricy that I am railing against.

And I wish Cruz had rose to support Trumpon the Chicago issue too. Both have made many mistakes.

Baloney again..... He said the CBF should only be seen in a museum. I think you are trying to set a ‘Deflection’ record in one thread. I give up, you’re hopeless.

If this issue is why you will no longer consider Trump, who is stronger amongst his competitors on halting Muslim immigration?

The one issue that has pulled me over to Trump is that he is being called a racist. The left thinks they can destroy ANY Republican when they pull that gun out. After 8 years of Obama my soul is an open wound and that is the weapon that has opened it.

Awfully metaphoric I know.

In the context of an official flag - his opinion - he did not state it should be outlawed - hence no 1st ammend violation.

Nor should it be a GOP issue.

Trump sometimes comments on an issue before thinking it through, but he’s not afraid to change course when he learns more about the issue. That’s a much different thing than what Cruz did. Cruz knew better about the Leftist rioters and yet played along with the MSM narrative for political gain.

He termed Geller a “publicity seeker going out and openly mocking religion.”

So I take it Trump, who wants to ban muslims from immigrating here, doesn’t have Geller’s back.

This was one of the things I disliked him doing and have said so before.

He was absolutely wrong on this one.

Since then, it's clear he's come around, which is more than I can say for the newly minted weasel Cruz. Who now keeps moving in the wrong direction.

Good God. As if somebody is saying that Trump doesn't have a right to free speech.

Both Cruz and Trump had the right to criticize the victim. Everybody knows that. The point is, was it appropriate.

Gellar doesn’t like what he said about her, but she has commented positively about him on some other issues. She also was very disappointed with Cruz blaming Trump for the protesters, as was I. Cruz was being a hypocrite.
