You know the score about Donald Trump, right? He "is playing directly to authoritarian inclinations," says Ph.D. student Matthew MacWilliams in Politico, who cites the way Trump voters rally around, among things, proposals to ban Muslims and deport illegal immigrants.
"Authoritarians obey," writes MacWilliams, who sampled 1,800 voters back in December. "They rally to and follow strong leaders. And they respond aggressively to outsiders, especially when they feel threatened."
Not so fast, say political scientists Wendy Rahn and Eric Oliver, who did their own survey and argue that Trump's followers aren't particularly authoritarian but populist in inclination.

Literally 2 posts up from the post you replied to, I pointed out that the graphs were a pile of doo.
I wouldn’t claim to say that all Cruz supporters are illiterate, but you clearly are.
I remember the post now. It had a sarc tag on it, and said something like "Next headline on National Review: Trump Brownshits murdering pastors." If that's the worst thing you've ever read on FR, you're really dumb.
Well put.
Well, Sanders supporters don’t trust money. So their dubious attitude towards the successful makes sense. They tacitly assume that anyone successful must’ve necessarily screwed someone else over to get where they are. They’ve no concept that economics is not a zero-sum game.
I suspect they also perform a sleight of hand on their own minds and elevate intellect/education as something sacrosanct. The idea of pure knowledge as something free from the tarnish of money, and that there are ‘people who know better’ who shall lead us out of this societal darkness, etc. It’s a similar ideal to that of philosopher-kings in Ancient Greek political philosophy.
Oh right, it was just a joke about somebody being shot in the back seven times.
Well, according to the all-knowing Glenn Beck, Jesus doesn’t love me if I happen to vote for Trump.
It wasn't a joke about someone getting shot you liar. It was anticipating the usual "Trump is causing violence" headline from the MSM.
LOL, making the author's point!
Yep, them dope-smokin' libertarians should all be in prison for possessing the wrong plant, right?
Or growing it, like George Washington did.
It would be interesting to see General Washington's reaction to being informed that growing hemp at Mount Vernon would, nowadays, subject him long prison sentences for every individual plant in his crop.
Ahhhh, the Prohibitionist Mind...
The thread was about the wounded man, not your delusions. By the way Newby, you can get your post scrubbed for calling me a liar; but let’s leave it up and let others judge.
Yeah, I called for prohibition in my post. Derp!
So you come into a thread, totally unrelated to the one in question, bring up something totally random, claimed I was joking about someone getting shot and totally misrepresented my post, without bothering to even provide the post in question so that "others can judge for themselves". You're a shameless liar, crying out in pain as you slap me.
Yes, I’ve long suspected this sort of mentality among many (not all) Cruz adherents.
Love that line!
That isn’t true at all.
Angry is a very difficult emotion to sustain, and it is by nature fleeting.
I’m just done with the GOP, and I’m not angry about it. I don’t really have any emotion about it at all, just over it.
Better yet, who would you rather, have your back in a physically dangerous situation, Trump or Cruz?
HA! That actually depends. Are we prayin' or drinkin'?
Well, glad to hear you're for decriminalization, then...
I always get a laugh, recalling how Ace of Spades dubbed Nick Gillespie “Goth Fonzie.”
I also always like to recall how celebratory the message-boards amongst the “Reason” crowd was towards Obama’s win in 2008. It’s one of the factors in why I discount anything that comes from their ‘libertarian’ quarters.
Interesting analysis. Your typical Sanders supporter is probably the type of person who believes that experts can be trusted provided their “intentions are pure”. They seem to believe that money is the only corrupting influence which exists, and that those who espouse their opinions for no monetary gain are inherently honest about their intentions. Their beliefs cumulate in a worldview which holds that academia is supreme.
They fail to realize that money is one of many corrupting influences, and that academics have every incentive to lie. I wonder how many of them are even aware of the Sokal Affair.
Actually, I am. Why is that a surprise? I can still call Nick the original dope smoking lib, because he is. I agree with Krauthammer more often, and I don’t like him.
