Dear Trump Supporters
Although I am not particularly enamored with Donald Trump (the ideas Cruz espouses are closer to my own), I absolutely understand and appreciate the dynamic behind Trump's meteoric rise and probable victories in the GOP nomination and the November election. I have posted before on FR about the importance of eradicating the Republican Party, so perhaps Trump is the vehicle for that necessary Schumpeterian creative destruction.
What does fascinate me is the hostility towards Cruz from ostensibly conservative folks who happen to be supporting Trump. I do not really care about the specifics of the animus but note that it approaches a quality that genuinely befuddles me. Having been at FR since the Xlintoon regime I am pretty confident that the hostility heaped on Hellary and Bubba pales in comparison to that currently aimed at Cruz. (I went back and read some random threads from back in the day.)
So here is my genuine question for Trump supporters: what was your attitude towards Cruz a year ago, before the entry of Trump into the race? I recall Cruz being lionized on FR and throughout the conservatosphere for being one of the two or three Senators willing to stand in the way of the Uniparty agenda.

Honest Question about Trump to Trump Lovers Feb. 27, 2016
I'd need limitless space and time to relate to you all the negatives on Cruz. But I'll say that I'm primarily displeased with Cruz in that he is going to -in the end-and bottom line- give amnesty to all the 14 million illegal moochers here. [and countless more millions when they arrive] And since this is his mindset, there's nothing more for me to add except your guy won't be the nominee. Trump will be the nominee!
Like some others posting on this thread, I started off being a Cruz fan. But the hijinks in Iowa, his getting bed with Looney Tunes Glen Beck and the student loans controversy did him in for me. The transition to Trump seemed natural at the time.
The more I see his actions and hear his words, the less I believe he is what he claims to be.
No one married to Goldman Sachs is an outsider.
Plus the voice and creepy mannerisms.
“...then I found out he was born in Canada.”
Is that true? Two years ago a liberal friend of mine told me it was going to be an issue for Cruz. -— A very liberal friend knew where he was born.
No way! Ted Cruz is so smart and knows the Constitution so well, he could tell Thomas Jefferson what it really means!
Judging how many posts appeared here so quickly, he's already crispy now.
You put it better than I can. I will add that his usage of the Church to advance himself in politics strikes me as quite un-Biblical - notwithstanding his campaign tactics.
2ND, we can only say that because we are from Texas, we know Ted. The 1 fabulous thing we have is whether Cruz wins or loses, We still win. He is my Senator and even if he loses, I still have him as my Senator
I’ve never liked Trump, and a year ago on FR Trump was a nobody while Cruz was a standard bearer.
I don’t dislike Trump because I like Cruz. And I’ve been extremely consistant, that is the posters point.
Cruz is on shaky ground with respect to eligibility and attacks Trump on a daily basis.
He also has ZERO ability to decimate DC, though not from lack of trying.
He has a demonstrated track record of being ineffective, all talk, no action.
Yet he will be Trumps VP and will be POTUS In 2020.
EXACTLY!
And the poster wonders why Trump supporters dislike Cruz. Look no further than his foaming at mouth supporters and you will find your answer.
And he has corrected Jefferson quite a bit as far as the facts go.
He was my choice after Trump. The more I have seen him the less I liked. He comes across as a sneaky lawyer. His campaign tactics have proved he is just a typical career politician.
I support Trump and have not been negative towards Cruz. I’m sure there are a lot more people like me on the Trump or Cruz side. We don’t get into the nastiness, throw flames or bait.
It’s not in the best interest of Freerepublic and generally turns me off.
Cruz has yet to prove himself as a Senator. His life accomplishments are near zero for his holding the highest office in the land. A career beltway lawyer and politician is the last thing I want for president. But the icing on the cake is that he was born in Canada to a Cuban father and American mother who owned a business there for three years before Ted was born and remained there for four more years afterwards.
He was issued a Canadian birth certificate and became a Canadian citizen. Canadian law at that time did not allow for duel citizenship so he isn’t natural born. There may well be a case that Cruz is not really a citizen at all if his mother didn’t have him naturalized when they moved here.
It sure would be good to have a full hearing with evidence provided to clear up this matter. So, in conclusion, even if Cruz got the nomination, I refuse to vote for him until it is cleared up. To those who say he is natural born, why the hell are you so determined that this not go to court for a full ruling? We expected it of Obama, we should expect it in this case as well as every other questionable situation.
Thanks for proving my point.
Exactly! Jefferson messed up, Ted Cruz fixed it!
