An Oklahoma mother is furious after she says a deputy shot her family dog while she was away and left him on the porch with a note.
The deputy came on to my property when nobody was home, Angie Laymon told KJRH. When my German Shepherd did his job and approached the officer barking, the officer shot him.
Laymon says she and her children were at church when the shooting occurred.
Three hours later, they arrived home to find their dog, Bruno, bleeding on the porch from a gunshot wound.
In addition to finding their dog, Laymon also found a note.
Theres a note on the door that says the cops shot him, she said.
At that point, she frantically called the sheriffs office.
He got out of his car and as he came around the side of your Escalade, your dog attacked him. I said, Did he bite him? He said, Well, he felt threatened, she told KJRH.
Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said the deputy was investigating a crime nearby when he felt threatened by the dog.
Theres a lot of things that could be asked. Why didnt he taze him? Why didnt he pepper spray him? You know, an officers weapon was the first thing that he drew and we dont have time to go through this use of force ladder, Walton told KJRH.
Bruno is being treated at an animal hospital after the bullet shattered his shoulder. Veterinarians say he will likely need to have his leg amputated.

my dog might bite back...
He could have been a real sleazebag and not left a note.
This is wrong on so many counts.
Did he even have the legal right to go on to their property without permission? The story doesn’t indicate anything resembling “hot pursuit”.
If anyone else seriously injured an animal and deliberately abandoned it in such a manner they would be charged with a crime. And we have the Sheriff defending this action.
The deputy should be on immediate suspension pending a full investigation. A civil suit should also be in the works, pronto.
The city will just say the cop acted according to policies and procedures. Non-event as far as they’re concerned.
I also think this deputy and I would need to have a one on one “conference” when he was off duty. Say, a kneecap for a shoulder?
I don’t know if I would actually do it, but I know I would want to.
Leaving a dog in the yard unattended presents risks.
They could escape and be in the neighborhood unattended, which could result in a cop showing up, or being run over, or being taken, or any number of other things.
They could bark for long periods of time, which could lead to an angry neighbor, which can lead to God knows what. Angry neighbors do crazy things.
Or, as in this case, a cop could show up nearby and decide to shoot the dog.
As far as leaving the dog inside and them wrecking the house, at that young age of six months, that is something that is to be expected, I’d say. Young dogs have a lot of energy and not necessarily good house manner.
I would kennel the young dog while I was gone. There is nothing wrong with using a kennel to house train a dog.
Please refrain from insulting the moron-class of America.
Thank you.
Yeah, mountain lion would be a risk in the country or away from the city.
Where I am at, the risk of black bear exists, but it’s very slim in the neighborhood.
Even Barney was not that stupid
Does anyone notice that you never hear about postal carriers demanding to be armed to protect themselves from dogs?
how do you get home owners insurance with them pups...do not answer ....great choice of dogs
If Sammy had lived, he should have gotten a Medal of Freedom. Unfortunately, the marshals retaliated as he ran away, shooting Sammy from behind. They were not using .22s. The first shot took one of Sammy's arms off at the elbow and the second, a shot in the back, killed the boy. RIP, Sammy Weaver!
Some time later during the resulting siege, a government sniper, employed IIRC by the FBI, named Lon Horiuchi (an alumnus of West Point and Harvard Laws School no less) assassinated Sammy's mother because he was ordered to do so, blowing a substantial part of her head off as she stood behind a door, holding her newborn infant in her arms. He could see her head and only her head through a window at the top of the door.
"Only following orders" as they said at the Nuremberg trials. Not a good defense then. Not a good defense now. Hopefully it never will be.
Ronaldus Maximus used to tell a story bout three dogs who got together for a conversation about their respective lives. One dog was American, one Russian and the third Polish. The American dog said: Whenever I am hungry, I bark and they bring me meat. The Russian dog said: What is bark? The Polish dog: What is meat?
In the linked story, that deputy sheriff sure taught that dog not to bark. We shall call him Deputy Brutalizadogsky and nickname him Poochslayer if the dog does not make it.
Bureau of Land management?
Black Lives Matter?
Bacon, Lettuce & Mayo?
Do tell.
I kind of hope a #blackviolecematters thug snuffs that cop. If they’re going to get anyone, it might as well be that SOB.
If you do not see me outside, you do not see my dogs, either.
No exceptions.
I would NEVER go away and leave my dogs outside.
From puppy millers to pit fighters, there’s just too many bad things that can happen.
When I am not home, security cams are recording every movement and every sound, inside and out, to boot and every time anything moves, I get an email alert on my phone.
Having said that, what effing right does *any* cop have, to stomp onto your property and shoot your dog?
*Ever*?
In my area, the new thing is to steal dogs from yards and cars.
Puppy millers breed them if they’re intact and dump them off far away, if they’re not.
The pit fighters keep them all.
Until they’re torn apart for “practice”.
“Obama’s sons” snatch little dogs like Yorkies and sell them for $100 in shopping center parking lots.
The “lost and found” ads here would break your heart.
We have State Farm.
They flat out told us they don’t care if we have pet wolves and alligators, never mind the Dobermanns.
None.
No right whatsoever unless the dog actually attacks.
Then it does become a matter of self defense as it would with anyone.
I sincerely hope no cop ever shoots my dog. That being said, I keep my dog away from cops.
The cop is a moron.
He is just a common thug criminal and deserves 5 years hard time for crap like this
