Aldi, the Germany-based no-frills supermarket chain, says it will now accept credit cards as it tries to attract more shoppers.
Aldi had previously just accepted cash and debit cards.
The move, announced Tuesday, should put more pressure on chains like Target, Wal-Mart and others. ...

They have the best price on rock-bottom cheap wine. Theirs is called “Winking Owl,” but it’s the same as “Oak Leaf” and other <$3 brands.
Not a big fan of Aldi’s. Their secret appears to be that they stock mostly processed foods with long shelf life. Not a lot of fresh food to be had. But it’s a business model that obviously works for them.
They also carry some brands you normally only see in Europe. Austrian chocolate, for example. I picked up a packet of dark roast coffee at a fraction the price and better than Starbuck’s crap. Makes the best stove top espresso. Interesting place to shop.
I hope prices don’t go up. We love Aldi. There organic selection is fantastic.
Sav-a-Lot has very similar pricing without the long lines. If I was retired and able to shop during weekdays, we'd probably go to Aldi's more.
Haven't tried those yet.
Depends on what you’re buying, I suppose.
Milk, eggs, juice, cereal, cheese, snacks etc. OK
Their vacuum packed sirloin steaks are $4.99/lb. In other local stores, $7.99/lb.
Usually very tender, little gristle, 1-1/2” thickness.
Eggs about $1/doz less than at other stores.
I was first introduced to Aldi when stationed in Germany, their stateside stores are run essentially the same as there. In particular I like their special buy items, you can pick up decent housewares there at very reasonable cost. Lately though they’ve been cutting back on the amount of items they carry from Germany. 10 years ago they had a lot of foodstuffs but now its hit and miss though at Christmastime they have a great selection of German items. I wish they’d bring back the spaetzle (German egg noodles).
Love those thin pork chops, they’re a bargain. Cream cheese 8oz brick for $0.99 another great bargain. Aldi’s is best for pantry stocking, big savings there.
I hate that store. When are they going to accept checks? Everybody else does. And when are they going to allow you to use a cart without a fee, (Yes, I know that the fee is refundable at the end, but I think it is insulting.) Their prices are not that good. Costco, Sam’s, Piggly Wiggly, and Sendik’s (a local, high end chain) all provide motorized carts for the handicapped, take checks as well as all other forms of credit. Not sure about Meijer because they’ve only recently opened and I haven’t explored them yet. I’ll leave Aldi to the folks who like to be perpetually abused.
When there, I usually circle the aisles until another checkout line opens up; or if I can help it, I go there close to closing time.
One of my favorite dutch oven meals is Cornish game hens, rice, veggies and chicken broth. Just made it last weekend with Aldi Hens while camping.
Mmmmm.Mmmmm
This is my favorite thing about Aldi. An endlessly varying array of quality hard goods, usually on a par with Target, but for a lot less. Their refrigerated and fresh produce items are consistently good quality, also. If only they stocked Dr. Pepper :^>
I do just as well on milk at Costco, Sams, Piggly Wiggly, and Sendiks (a local, high-end chain). Even my neighborhood gas station has weekly specials on milk that would match Aldi’s.
Credit cards work on a percentage per sale basis prices might go up here after they begin accepting them.
Well, my Aldi Is less than a mile from my house.
I’ve never used checks at a food market, and I’d rather see the carts in the corral than all over the parking lot.
I shopped at an Aldi once and didn't see much of a product selection.......
