LOS ANGELES Hollywood is bracing for an Academy Awards that more than any in recent memory, has the feel of a high-stakes showdown.

After a second straight year of all-white acting nominees prompted industry-wide scrutiny, viewers and stars alike are hanging on the opening words of host Chris Rock. The Dolby Theatre ceremony, heavily guarded by security, stands at the center of a swirling storm over diversity in the movies and at the Oscars, with protests planned near the red carpet and some viewers organizing a boycott of the broadcast.
The Academy Awards, normally decorous and predictable, are this year charged with enough politics and uncertainty to rival an election debate. Arrivals for the 88th annual Academy Awards are expected to begin as early as 5 p.m. EST, with the ceremony kicking off at 8:30 p.m. EST on ABC.

I don’t give a rats behind about the Oscars anymore. I heard Stallone was nominated, and for old times sake, I hope he wins. But otherwise, I will be glad when the night is done.
Hollywood socialist justice warriors really roll out the Red carpet.
We don’t see Muslims shooting up recruiting offices, shooting soldiers on a base, etc. always a disgruntled right-wing nut. We don’t see BLM protestors burning stores, attacking and shooting cops. Always a scruffy white guy.
Oscars will lose even more watchers when the MC goes off on a rant about too many white folk in Hollywood.
DILLIGAFF?
Do I Look Like I Give A Flying Fbomb?
Chris Rock is hosting these awards. The Hollywood moguls need to be mindful of one of his lines:
“There’s two types of malls in America. The ones white people go to, and the ones white people used to go to.”
Well, to paraphrase for this situation, there are two types of movies made in America. The ones white people will pay money to see, and the ones they won’t.
Hollywood can decide which business model works best for them.
Exactly.
Protests? There’ll be no protests. Libs protect them selves the same way any self-important group of people does. (( rolling eyes ))
Since I haven’t seen a movie in a current run theater in many years, I have no idea; were there any black actor performances worth nominating in the last few years? Or is this supposed to be an automatic set-aside?
I wont be watching. However the self righteous Trump hate should be worth the admission. ;) By the way. I always use the spell checker provided here. I noticed it corrects for Trump. Congrats Donald. You’ve made it to FR!
I JUST LOVE WHEN THEY EAT THIER OWN, NOW THATS ENTERTAINMENT
BLM freaks, bad Trump jokes, tons of lefty grandstanding.
Waste of time as usual.
Well there was the new black Human Torch, there was that black Empire stormtrooper in the new Star Wars Part 7 movie, there was the black boxer in Rocky 7 (or is it 8), and Samuel L. Jackson graphically sexually assaulted a man in the new Q. Tarantino movie.
Certainly all were Oscar(TM) worthy. Obama should’ve been nominated for one as well, if he’d have made a movie, it would’ve been great. Just ask the Noble committee.
There will be protests. I don’t know what ribbons they will be sporting tonight but those with black and gold wristbands are denouncing guns in America.
The last movie I watched in a theater was “Saving Private Ryan”, whenever that was.
Not gonna watch, but I hope Stallone and darlin’ Rocky win...hope The Martian takes best picture, too.
They’re against guns so there won’t be any armed security there.
If I was in charge, next year I would make a big hoopla about a special black category and make sure only the crappiest actors in the crappiest movies get nominated
