If you have Chrome as the default browser on your Windows 10 computer, you'd better check to make sure Microsoft didn't hijack it last week and set Edge as your new default. The same goes for any PDF viewer: A forced cumulative update also reset PDF viewing to Edge on many PCs.
Do you use IrfanView, Acdsee, Photoshop Express, or Elements? The default photo app may have been reset to -- you guessed it -- the Windows Photos app. Music? Video? Microsoft may have swooped down and changed you over to Microsoft Party apps, all in the course of last week's forced cumulative update KB 3135173 .

Not completely identical, but you would expect that for a program operating from different sources. Then again, the latest versions of MS Word and Publisher operate differently than their original versions, and have done so over every different version of ‘doze that has ever come out.
You might wish to download a bootable disk and try a few versions to see what they feel like. Nothing, however, will feel exactly like the version(s) you currently have but as I stated previously, nothing ever will. Try them out and see how they work, then think about how you will never again be worried about being forced to undergo yet another “upgrade” the next time the ‘doze bean-counters feel the need for yet another method to increase their income amounts.
I hate being forced to use that crap. My engineering software requires Windows and the latest update from them is only supported on Win 10. Yech.

I tried the Windows 10 on my system. Every program but one was supported. I could not find drivers for my RAID, so I switched back to Windows 7. I wish I could opt out of their nag-ware.
I hear you, mate. My engineering software and controlling cards work only on XP, and it is a constant struggle to keep the systems from suddenly deciding to “upgrade” to Win10, like it or no.
Forced “upgrades” are something I must constantly be on the lookout for, and it is an ongoing problem that I do not wish to have to be constantly dealing with.

Edge is the worst browser ever foisted upon mankind. Deplorable. User-hostile. Nonintuitive.
Have you tried Draftsight? Release Feb2016 just came out and it supports Win10.
Consider yourself fortunate. I have some high-end Engineering programs I work with constantly and NONE of them will work with anything more recent than XP. I am already to the point where I am working with Virtual Machines in Linux where I can at least attempt to emulate the XP environment in an attempt to get them working on more modern machines, but at this point it is still hit-or-miss with most of them until I manage to figure out what they most need to operate.
Win 10 is definitely out of the question, however.
Worse than that. Updates killed my wireless and made Firefox disappear. Finally rolled back to a February 2 restore point which got the wireless working again, then had to download Firefox again. Then had to re-set Firefox as the default browser. I’ve disabled any further MS updates on this laptop. Haven’t converted my Win7 desktop at this point, and don’t plan to after this little exercise.

I heard talk of a big class action suit for damages. Some of their updates are viruses themselves. They’ve caused a lot of headache and rendered some programs useless. The owner of the computer must have control of the settings. Whats interesting, I think the Pro version 10 and another have user controls regarding updates. Home version etc do not. The Pro costs more money...lol I find this outrageous. It seems they’re trying to force people to get the expensive version.

I find it clunky and a serious pain to use. Its presence in my laptop has also slowed Opera somehow, and now there are bugs that I didn't notice before.

I still have the update sitting in the Update file.
I don’t want Win10 .. because I don’t need it. I just use my laptop to write stuff .. and have email connection with my family. And, I like using IE for mail.
Several people have suggested Linux, but I don’t have a clue how to install it. My computer guru is out of town for about 3 mos, so if Win10 downloads .. I’ll have a mess on my hands, and perhaps a lost manuscript.

If you want to forestall the forced Windows 10 update, do a search for GWX Control Panel. It’s safe and effective - read the reviews. Free and a quick install. Microsoft offers a more difficult solution, involving editing the registry. For now, GWX Control Panel will take care of you...
The only control you have is “do you want to upgrade now, or in 5 minutes.” You don’t have an option. Also, I have not been able to access “unistall” programs. Apparently it is very common and they will fix it right away I’m sure.
I hate windows for the CF. I don’t mind windows per se. But this 10 is too much. Updates on my software cost me $8000 just to be able to use new computers. And who knows what new problems will pop up during the mandatory updates.
