We were visiting Ireland just north of Dublin.
Somebody recommended we walk along some cliffs just outside of town and we could see Wales. I was sort of surprised. The narrowest point of the Irish Sea is 47 miles, but OK.
It wasn’t until a couple days later it dawned on me that they meant whales. (We didn’t see either.)

Ever dreamed of finding a message in a bottle? How about an intact sea-faring vessel? Calling what they have in the picture a sea-faring vessel seems a bit of an exaggeration.
I would say that it is closer to a piece of driftwood than a vessel.
They have filled the 'vessel' with foam making it nearly unsinkable.
I suppose this is an adequate experiment for Fourth Graders but it is not terribly realistic. Having the GPS tracker at least they can learn about ocean currents.

Ever dreamed of finding a message in a bottle? I did once... on the beach of Little Saint Simons Island in Georgia. The note was part of a school project written by some kid in South Carolina. I did write back as the note asked, but didn't hear anything back.

kids...they never write, never call.

The kid’s name was “Shanakia” so I never really expected a reply.

Lol! I started to post that it was debris that washed ashore but then I changed my mind.

I found one in Lake Michigan about 20 feet offshore between Port Sheldon and Grand Haven, MI. The note gave the sender’s home as being on the other side of the state. I thought to myself how that could not be, because any currents would run contrary to that, so I put the note back in the bottle, put the cap back on, and heaved it back into the lake for someone else to discover. That was some decades ago, so my recollection may bit a bit like Hillary’s.

I hope the boat's itinerary will be published. You can find palm trees in Northern Ireland, not too far from Wales.
