I'm trying to understand FR's embrace of the Donald, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. I too had a favorable first reaction when I heard him talking about building the wall in absolute terms, and his rejection of the concept of amnesty for illegal aliens. I also admired that he was the first politician in a long time that would fight back against the media and left-wing attacks, instead of trying to appease the left. However, that admiration quickly wore off when I researched Trump and found clip after clip of the man, in his own words embracing every liberal talking point in the book. Planned Parenthood, gay marriage, abortion, government health care, protectionist trade policies, increasing taxes on businesses and the most productive. Of course, the man has taken the opposite positions on most of these two. Sometimes he will take both sides of an issue in the same discussion. Also, his "I'm awesome at___________" is wearing a bit thin. I want to hear what you plan to do, not how great you are. Then there is his child like temper, calling anyone he doesn't agree with , Liar, Pu@@Y or worse. Just seems kind of juvenile. The personality quirks I could live with, but a man who praises Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton is another thing. And perhaps most important of all, he has said that his uber liberal sister would be a great Supreme Court Justice. Other than being a recent convert on Immigration this man has no conservative bona fides and yet have of FR acts like you would expect this board to react if Ronald Regan had returned. I just don't get it. If Bernie Sanders starts lobbying for the fair tax and runs for President on the GOP ticket would the Trumpets start feeling the Bern.
Trump would bring the battle to Hillary, no other candidate would. You can ‘What if’ any candidate.
Those of us who worked for Rickover recognize a real leader.
Vanity posts like this are stupid and are designed for no other reason that to stir up crap on here. If you’ve really been following FR, the you’d understand what Trump’s appeal is. If that is too difficult for you to comprehend, then go read some exit polls and you’ll figure it out pretty quickly. I have no tolerance for the endless food fights stirred up from people like you. Pick a candidate and advocate for one but stop the whiny I don’t understand routine. It’s tiresome.
It’s the shock jock candidacy. Trumps talks angry and unedited, people like that. It’s made Howard Stern rich.
Couldnt just comment on one of the other Idont like/get Donald Trump Vanities? Had to create your own?
Cruz is already ‘In the ashes’, if he can’t beat Rubio and Trump, no way he could take on Hillary.
You’re overanalyzing it. If you recorded every word Ronald Reagan ever uttered you’d be just as confused about him.
Trump pre June 2015 was a private businessman who did whatever he needed to do to advance his business goals and projects, including donating money to people you seem to not like very much. If it was worth a million dollars to you and your family to say something nice about Nancy Pelosi...well, you answer the question.
Post June 2015, Trump has had to become a politican, where every word is subject to scrutiny, but he doesn’t care. If you can’t accept the differenc, vote for Rubio or Hillary or whomever. But don’t expect anyone to make Trump into a purist, an ideologue, or a politician since last summer.
No, but I wouldn’t vote for a liberal just because he had.
One, when you use a derogatory term like “Trumpets” in your post, you lose any pretense of objectivity. It makes one wonder what your goal is here.
That aside, point two: I'm a Trump supporter, and I freely admit I'm taking a risk there. I think there's a good chance (maybe 20%, your mileage may vary) that Trump is not a political Patton, and instead he is running some sort of scam. But considering the times, I'm willing to take that chance. Others might not, and I respect that.
If you are trying to imply that running a business is like running the nation, you’re severely misinformed. And if Trump were so great at running a business, then why the four corporate Chapter 11 bankruptcies? Why were they even necessary if he is so great, so terrific, so brilliant at running a business?
Trump has stated, when asked, that government would pay for his healthcare plan that covers anyone. If he’s so bright, how come he doesn’t know that taxpayers fund government... and that he is therefore implying that taxpayers will pay for and cover his “plan”?
Taxpayers are already paying out the wazoo under Obama, yet under Trump they would no doubt pay even more. And THAT is what you’re voting for?
No thanks.
I always wanted to live in Cuba. You?
For the record, if Hillary (or Sanders) is elected, I won’t blame Trump. That outcome requires a level of National Stupid that took generations to build, and Trump would be just a bow on it, insignificant.
If you’re that simplistic you’ll never understand it.
There definitely IS something about Donald Trump. He is our modern day Winston Churchill.
If Jeb was running in second place that MIGHT be a correct statement. But reality is Jeb’s candidacy was stillborn. Nobody but the big donors like him, he’s never polled at reasonable numbers, half the time he’s losing to Ben Carson who is not a serious candidate.
And built his buildings with illegal immigrant labor, which he wanted, using the New York Democratic machine and paid-off union organizers to cover for him.
Trump is a big-government, tax & spend liberal in RINO clothing. He isn’t fooling me...but apparently he has fooled a lot of folks here that are supposedly on the right. Emphasis on ‘supposedly’.
I take a man at their word. The positions he puts out now, are the ones I expect he will embrace. With the sole exception of Obama, most Presidents have found themselves hemmed in by their previous words.
Ronald had left the Democrat Party for a Decade before running for office and during that time had written and spoken extensively in defense of Conservativism.
Trump was spouting Liberal Mantra’s last Thursday and was embracing government healthcare and the individual mandate during this campaign?
“I’m trying to understand FR’s embrace of the Donald, but I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this one.”
Respectfully, if you don’t get Trump’s appeal you’re being intentionally thick. I want Cruz. That’s my guy. That said, Trump echoes the frustration of the voters, and Paul Ryan’s betrayal only made Trump more appealing. Trump is also a lot more nuanced than you give him credit for, but to me every time he b!tch-slaps the press I applaud. Now the Press is relatively pro-Trump as they conform to abused wife syndrome.
