This Canadian Island is offering refuge if Trump wins
The Week ^ | 2/17/16

If Donald Trump wins the presidency, there's definitely one place out there that will be welcoming fleeing Americans with open arms: Canada's Cape Breton Island. The rural Nova Scotia island is angling to solve Americans' impending Trump problem by inviting anyone who wants to "get the hell out of there" to move to the island.

They even have a website for this....and they say they're serious. Just out of curiosity, I checked it out. (No, I am NOT considering moving there...it was pure curiosity.)

The reason they're offering this is that CBI's population has been in decline, and they're encouraging people to emigrate there...especially if you have skills they're looking for. They even have testimonials from expat Americans who've moved or are about to move there.

The problem is...they welcome ALL cultures (including the ones that want to kill you), and you can't own a firearm.

Me? If I were rich enough, I'd have a summer home there, just to enjoy the Gaelic music (which is all over the island). It IS the home of Natalie McMaster and the Rankins, after all.

But live there...not on your life.

I doubt it will be spared the carnage that would be caused by a trump administration. the damage would be world wide

Had dinner with a good friend Tuesday night. He said if Trump wins he’s moving to Canada...maybe Calgary. I said...oh, that’s where Cruz was born. My friend said quietly “oh, I didn’t know that”. Moments of silence ensued.

Cape Breton has yet to experience the full force of the coming ravages of the Justin Trudeau tenure.

I’m sure they’ll be pleased to welcome Ted back. Heck, they may as well greet him with soccer balls and teddy bears.

Some negatives for sure.

But maybe with a Trump Presidency Cape Breton will become the last refuge of sanity. I know I sure as hell am not looking forward to having an unhinged nutjob for a President.

Some of the opposition campaign workers who post here should feel relieved.

No not stupid, but he doesn’t watch TV and reads literature. I am guessing he gets his opinion of Trump from friends.

He thinks Trump isn’t and won’t ever be a statesman. Needles to say I have a few comments about that and the forces that are against us. I said he is the only one who is standing up for the American worker....etc etc.

After all these months, I still cannot believe Cruz went down to the border with Glenn Beck for that publicity stunt. What was he thinking?

Time was, when whether one was wealthy, poor, or in between, the vast majority of Americans kept up with the news and paid more attention to politics...even kids.

Sadly, now far too many people pay NO attention at all, have NO idea what is happening anywhere, NOT EVEN IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY, and are too damned stupid and uninformed to be allowed to vote!

I know some Canadians, and they are super judgy about Americans. Doubt it would be much of a haven. Plenty of murderous refugees around who would be delighted to live there, I’m sure.

I agree. I wish there was a basic civics test required to vote...and it should be in English only. Or, maybe you have to actually be a taxpayer to vote.

Yes that stuck in my craw when he did that STUPID stunt and does so still.

Now, besides dragging his poor kids all over ( THEY BELONG IN SCHOOL; ESPECIALLY THE 7 YEAR OLD! )the country, he's dragging Crazy Glenn with him too! And Glenn giving him the oath of office, for the president, on a bloody COMPASS of all things, makes me wonder about his "smarts" even MORE! Oh....and then there is the fact that he hired that dirty trickster, Rowe and has pulled some REALLY disgusting things!

Be a tax payer AND take a relatively easy test (IN ENGLISH, with nobody there to help you) re our government, before you are allowed to vote!

I'd also like the age to vote raised to 26.
