My first son had the same first name as his father, and so we called him by his middle name. It was easier and led to no confusion.

My father-in-law hated his first name and spent his life being called “Bobby” and then “Bob” and Robert was his middle name. (Some sinister reason, no doubt!!!)

Sometimes irrelevant things are just that. Why is this issue even “on” FR.

I knew a kid growing up. His first name was John or James (I cant remember. While in junior high, as a joke on the first day of class, he told the teacher his name was “Seth”.

It stuck. Everyone called him Seth after that, first to get a rise out of him, then we got used to it, and he got used to it.
