Polls: Cruz Would Fare 5 Points Better Versus Clinton Than Trump Would
Weekly Standard ^ | 2/11/2016 | Jeffrey H. Anderson

Among the two candidates whose results look at all like those of an eventual GOP presidential nominee, polling suggests that Ted Cruz would do significantly better than Donald Trump in the general election. According to the Real Clear Politics average of recent polls, Cruz would fare 5 points better versus Hillary Clinton than Trump would.

Polling has consistently shown Cruz to have an advantage over Trump in this regard: Fox News found that Cruz would fare 4 points better than Trump, beating Clinton by 7 points (50 to 43 percent) to Trump's 3 (47 to 44 percent). NBC News and the Wall Street Journal found that Cruz would fare 6 points better than Trump, losing to Clinton by 4 points (49 to 45 percent) to Trump's 10 (51 to 41 percent). And Quinnipiac found that Cruz would fare 5 points better than Trump, tying Clinton (at 45 percent apiece) while Trump would lose by 5 points (46 to 41 percent).

In all, RCP's average finds that Cruz would beat Clinton by 1 point (47 to 46 percent), while Trump would lose by 4 points (47 to 43 percent).

Just curious, why do you care?

**************

Because we have to defeat the democrat and to do that it will take an effort of voters to
get the electoral college vote. True one vote isn’t going to matter and I suppose one can
console themselves in that manner. But a larger mandate from the public helps the winner.

Now will you vote for Trump is he is the nominee?

It was horrible watching the Obama supporters sell out our country. I truly believe Trump would be worse than Obama, truly catastrophic.

I don’t think you would have liked Trump dissing his sister either so he couldn’t please you. But then you are one vote. Only Dems get more than 1 vote.

I don’t see Trump, with his extremely high negatives pulling much more than 40% in the general.

Possibly, but Romney isn’t running, so it’s a non issue.

So you want say in this forum if you’d vote for Trump if he
was the nominee?
If Trump was the nominee you mean you wouldn’t help him get
above your projected 40%?

Hello Madam President..........

Look it’s time to start getting real. Ted Cruz is stuck at 17% in the new Morning Consult poll. Same as a week ago. Trump is op to 44%. Trump beat Cruz in every demographic in NH. Trump is even beating Cruz with the evangelicals.

Trump is polling well with Indies, Blacks,Hispanics and Democrats. He will win the general election in a landslide.

These negatives you keep harping on are from months ago.

Things have changed. Trump is beginning to look like a runaway train.

Live by the poll, die by the poll.

Naw. Live by the part of the poll that shows Trump winning the nomination.

Toss the part of the poll that shows Cruz doing better than Trump in the General Election.

The devil is in the internals. It’s all about the swing states.

Cruz might do better in states that are already solidly red. He’s fine when he’s preaching to the choir, so to speak.

My understanding is his act doesn’t play well in FL, CO, and the upper-midwest. OTOH, Trump does well in those states, and might actually put some blue states back in play.

So you don’t need Cruz supporters to vote for Trump?

I am a Cruz supporter and would vote for Trump.

Thankfully I won’t be required to vote for supporters on any side.

But why would Kristol and friends would want that?

Because they don't mind losing. They're in the snark industry, not real industry. Easier to be snarky when your team's not up to bat. They're also well-insulated from the effects of bad governance, or even benefit from it.

You may be right.   And as we know, these guys like Will, Krauthammer, Kristol, and Rove have been around a long time, so maybe they figure it's time to retire and give it up.

He’s at 60% unfavorable as of just a few weeks ago. The number will be far worse than that by November.

“He’s at 60% unfavorable as of just a few weeks ago.”

Its time to be honest. We both know that is not true. Those numbers are from last June. Donald Trump’s unfavorable are around 40 right now and it just does not seem to be affecting his poll numbers with all demographics. He is likely to get 20-25% of the black vote in a general election which assures him of a win.

Its hard to accept that your guy is not going to make it. I had to deal with it in 2012 with Newt. But it is what it is. The voters are just not that into Ted Cruz.

Your story is a lie. Trump has the numbers. Cruz will not win the primary and can’t win a general. Period. All that’s left for you is pouting at home on Election Day.
