Among the two candidates whose results look at all like those of an eventual GOP presidential nominee, polling suggests that Ted Cruz would do significantly better than Donald Trump in the general election. According to the Real Clear Politics average of recent polls, Cruz would fare 5 points better versus Hillary Clinton than Trump would.
Polling has consistently shown Cruz to have an advantage over Trump in this regard: Fox News found that Cruz would fare 4 points better than Trump, beating Clinton by 7 points (50 to 43 percent) to Trump's 3 (47 to 44 percent). NBC News and the Wall Street Journal found that Cruz would fare 6 points better than Trump, losing to Clinton by 4 points (49 to 45 percent) to Trump's 10 (51 to 41 percent). And Quinnipiac found that Cruz would fare 5 points better than Trump, tying Clinton (at 45 percent apiece) while Trump would lose by 5 points (46 to 41 percent).
In all, RCP's average finds that Cruz would beat Clinton by 1 point (47 to 46 percent), while Trump would lose by 4 points (47 to 43 percent).
“Right now it looks like Trump is winning. He is doing this by lying, being crude, demeaning and denigrating opponents and saying simple phrases with no substance. Every time he does get cornered into providing some substance his NY values start to show. He loves eminent domain. He thinks Planned Parenthood does a lot of good and should continue to be funded. He’s okay with unnatural marriage. He thinks some form of govt run healthcare is okay. He’s opposed to amnesty, but as long as they go back the “good ones” can come back permanently. He’s going to rebuild the military without increasing spending.”
Do you talk to him regularly? I bet you haven’t listened to even one of his many hour long rallies...
If Trump wins the nomination, do you think he will need Cruz supporters to vote for him in the general election?
Trump is not perfect, but he's a known commodity to most Americans. Shrillary, or whomever the Dems nominate, will not be as successful running a negative campaign again The Donald.
I actually wish there was a viable 3rd option - the Conservative bonafides of a Cruz, with the media savvy (& teflon) of a Trump - but that's a pipe dream with the current crop of candidates.
Like you Holier-than-thou Cruz supporters people will vote for Trump
What were Billy's private pollster claim New Hampshire vote was going to be?
He had to shut down his twitter account
Of all the conservatives that was fooled by John Roberts, Cruz is the only one to be held responsible?
He is the only running for president, is he not? Of course, he is responsible - he went to bat for him for confirmation. Wow, you Cruzbots take the cake - always trying to make excuses for his poor judgment.
There was a second part of the question, that you seem to be avoiding:
Can you name one well known conservative who didn't think that Roberts was a good, solid conservative at the time of his nomination?
If you won't answer, I'll answer for you: No
Everyone thought he was a good, solid, conservative pick and applauded his nomination.
That's why everyone thought the Obamacare case was a slam-dunk, and why everyone was so shocked when he ruled the way he did.
I WAS paying attention at the time and I still am.
What part of I wasn’t paying attnetion, do you NOT understand? Cruz wasn’t in the Senate at that time either - he was working for GWB. You can try to twist and spin this any way you want. Truth is - Cruz helped select GWB - remember -he wasn’t in the Senate at that time. I don’t have to answer your stupid question, b\cause it isn’t pertinent.
Trump has had at least 13 well documented business failures with his brand.
Cruz didn’t have a vote on it either as he wasn’t a senator.
Trump has had at least 13 well documented business failures with his brand.

Just curious. If Trump does become the nominee will you
vote for Trump on Nov. 8, 2016?
Just curious, why do you care?
Ted Cruz cannot even get 25% of the republican vote much less get the independent voters or bleed off any Dems. He has no chance to win a general election. Trump will win in a landslide.
You are not worth trying to carry on an intelligent conversation with.
If he needs my vote in Alabama he has already lost. I will move down ballot because I don’t want to be a part of the massive screw job he has planned for America.
Trump will be destroyed in the general. His negatives are higher than any other candidate for a reason. Cruz is the most lied candidate in the field. The only reason that Cruz is not beating Trump is that Trump’s 30% is higher than the rest of the GOP field which is split between 5 other candidates. One on one, Cruz waxes Trump.
Trumps 30 to 40% are not going to win a general election. Say hello, President Sanders.
The Obama photo reminds me exactly what the Trump photo is - They will follow their guy into the abyss no matter what.
Wasn’t there a poll a few weeks back trying to push Romney as the best candidate to go up against Hillary?
