Belief in moral-watching, all-knowing, punitive gods might have helped human societies grow far beyond small, close-knit groups, a new study shows. Researchers who ran an experiment with a total of 591 people in eight different small-scale societies around the world found that people who believed their deity of choice knew about their misdeeds and would punish them were more likely to play fairly in a game where money was on the line.
The findings, described in the journal Nature, hint at the integral role that certain religious beliefs may have played in the dramatic expansion of human societies.

Now that’s being replaced with an all knowing, punitive federal government. Well, punitive to the little people not in the ruling class.
What I find amusing is that the use of God in relevant political discourse and for the purposes of control has been done for millenia, even as far as back the Egyptians, yet the Democrats are doing everything in their power to destroy God and replace the controlling mechanism with “the State.”
Another Trump article...
There is something to be said for the fact that EVERY society on earth since ‘society” was invented with agriculture has created, formed, or used “gods” and religious belief as a foundation.
Up until Marxist thought, and then today’s socialist-Marxist hatred of Christianity and Western civilization, that is. Now, it is the socialist governments who killed their 164 million in the 20th century that the socialists worship as “gods” ..
Well duh.
All these arrogant intellectuals who think they know everything most shocked by the news.
Deuteronomy 4:19 & Malachi 1:11.
Barring immorality and crime, all stand to be saved.
Its like governments being forced to adhere to a gold standard.
Knowing there is a higher power who will hold you responsible makes you a lot more cautious.
And...the disbelief in all-knowing punitive gods aid the downfall of human society.
G.K. Chesterton’s, “Everlasting Man,” remains well worth reading. Could have saved these folks performing the study a lot of work.
If that’s true, then what happens when the opposite happens? What happens to a society when its members STOP believing in an all-knowing, punitive god and start believing that they themselves are the alpha and the omega?
These social scientists are geniuses. Wow.
(Nature is going down hill).
The militant atheists don’t understand their own theories they trumpet.
Evolutionary theory supports the existence of God.
They are following in the footsteps of the Neanderthals which were not religious vs. the Cro-Magnons that were.
Sounds like they are saying that if God didn’t exist, it was good he was invented.
Thanks Robert A. Cook, PE. BTW, this is just a catechism about how EVEN GOD WANTS A SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY, share and share alike, everyone a self-critical member of the team who doesn't try to have more by doing more.
It’s studies like this that lead me to question whether anthropology should be considered a science discipline.
They needed a study to learn this?
One of my old history professors cracked me up once upon a time by expressing worry that two of his doctoral candidates were at risk of becoming anthropologists, so he was headed to Mexico to help guide them back.
