Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy said Monday that the occupation at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge would continue.
In a notarized letter from Clark County, Nevada, Bundy wrote to Harney County Sheriff David Ward that "We the people of Harney County and also we the People of the citizens of United States DO GIVE NOTICE THAT WE WILL RETAIN POSSESSION OF THE HARNEY COUNTY RESOURCE CENTER (Malheur (sic) National Wildlife Refuge)."
The letter was also sent by certified mail to Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and President Barack Obama.
"Remove all federal and state policing agents out of Harney County," Bundy wrote. "Place a Harney County sheriff guard post at the entrance road of the Harney County Resource Center stopping all from entering or exiting, for a time."
The attorney for Cliven's son, Ammon Bundy, wouldn't comment on the letter.
But in the last week, Ammon Bundy and his counsel have repeatedly called for an end to the occupation.
"I have asked those people at the refuge to go home," Bundy told a federal judge in court Friday. "This was never about an armed standoff."
A person reached at Cliven Bundy's ranch Monday confirmed the authenticity of the letter but said the elder Bundy was taking calls from "fellow patriots"....

“What gives?”
Planting your flag on turf claimed by the other side is a common tactic in protests as well as in war.
Could signify a split in BLM. Employees who fear for their jobs, surreptitiously expressing support.
OTOH, most likely guerilla tactics by the protestors—in essence saying ‘BLM are the illegal occupiers, not the protestors.’
Thanks for your post, it helps clear things up for me.
I think LaVoy is settling in on his own planet and probably doesn’t give a hoot about Oregon.
No, that was his kid—the one that got arrested.
Nice of him to support the USPS. But he could have saved some money by sending it priority...you get free tracking.
He must have a mouse in his pocket.
Summary execution!
Thanks.
This is not particularly encouraging. What the whole episode has taught me is that the country i thought I was living in does not exist any more, and although the constitutional republic documents are allegedly still in place, it is really over.
Something new and worthwhile will emerge, yet this action is really frightening and all involved are in mortal danger.
Both women in the truck said there were shots fired at the truck at the first stop.
Was he supposed to get out and play Neo in the The Matrix?
He came zooming around a blind curve at 60+ mph.
The dipsticks set up around the blind curve.
He had a choice - the trucks or the ditch at 60 mph.
What you have to love about Free Republic - if you pay attention you learn something new every day. :)
Either that, or a couple of 9mm bullet holes.
But they never shot - you can't hear anything on the cool drone video.
Shiny - SHINY!!!
The prosecutor will likely argue that they're flight risks so they may not get it.
What did Bundy do? He was a passenger in a vehicle.
Where was he going? To a public meeting with a sheriff. Why? To explain his plan for leaving MWR.
Why travel to Grant County? Because he was denied use of meeting halls in Harney County.
Denied by whom? First by Sheriff Dave Ward and then by County Judge Steven Grasty. (Grasty appointed Ward sheriff).
In Oregon “county judge” is retained in some counties as the title of the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. This is the case in Harney County, Grasty his Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. His judicial authority is limited to probate only.
So first the Sheriff of Harney County and then the Chair of the Harney County Board of County Commissioners denied use of meeting halls in Harney County.
Having been denied use of meeting halls in Harney County, Bundy was going to a public meeting in neighboring Grant County to explain his plan for leaving MWR. Grant County Sheriff Palmer was expected to attend.
Oregon State Police and FBI did not allow Bundy to attend this meeting.
Why would Bundy’s be denied bail?
Flight risk. I suspect the prosecution will request no bail but it'll be up to the judge.
Took over a federal facility.

He was still wanted by the authorities on federal charges. They weren't going to just let him walk out and go home.
