A San Francisco startup has created a $15 computer.
Pine 64 is now taking pre-orders for its Quad core 64-Bit expandable single board supercomputer, which will ship in May. The product can be combined with a keyboard and mouse to function as a full Android 5.1 computer.
The company recently raised $1,731,465 on a Kickstarter campaign that had a goal of $31,416.
Nice! I’ll be buying some of these. Reminds of when early CPU chips (8008, 8080, 6502 etc.) became cheaply available in the early 1970s and sparked a personal computer revolution. This may foster a new round of personalized computing gear. Mini-robots, specialized headgear, computers built into cheap 3D printers, etc.
Devices with similar specs have been available on Amazon or EBay for a while now, that you plug into the HDMI port of a HDTV but they usually cost at least $40. I like that this one comes with a lot more RAM than a typical tablet which is the most comparable device that most of us are used to.
Everybody knows 64 bits is only 8 dollars...
Looks to me like the 19 dollar version with 1GB ram is the sweetspot...it’s worth 4$ more IMO.
The A64 has vastly more CPU power
Serial feed input is still way too slow. 32 and 64 bit parallel input ports are faster and you can flip them...

I agree; my response was not specific enough. I was looking at the specs for the devices that were more expensive. Most of these have been used for playing multimedia our browsing the internet on an HDTV. This is very similar to a ROKU or Amazon Fire Stick. I know the Fire Stick can be hacked so you can root it and use whatever apps you want on it.
I think that I would actually purchase the one with 2GB of RAM. When you are looking at tablets the cheap ones now usually come with 512KB. If you want to get one with 2GB you have to pay a whole lot more. I already have a couple of wireless keyboards that are compatible. I am looking over Amazon right now to see what competitive products are currently available.
AND you can get 32 shaves and haircuts.
Two bits? That's like the cheer, right?
I was looking over Amazon which is similar to the 2GB version which they are taking orders for $29 + $7 shipping is selling with free prime shipping and a wireless keyboard with touchpad for $49. It is a little different animal but it would arrive in a couple days and has good reviews.
a little known secret, get a raspberry PI 2 model B, and you can install KODI with Genesis and get all the free streaming movies and live tv you want.
no more netflix.
sure it is illegal to download copyrighted material, but there no law against streaming, yet.
~$37 plus fast internet and you’re set. and of course, knowledge on computer is a plus.
yikes...15 buck version currently sold out.
What could I do with this?
I am not familiar with the A65... do you have a link?
“What could I do with this?”
Type your name and play Pong. :-)
Raspberry Pine?
I can do that on my existing computer.
