Teen Illegally Scales Egypt's Great Pyramid

Though climbing the oldest and largest of the three pyramids could result in a three-year jail term, or something far worse if he lost his footing, "I thought the photos would be worth it," Ciesielski says, per the Telegraph. Armed with a GoPro camera, "I just started climbing." He took the first few steps quickly "so nobody would follow me and take me down," he tells Business Insider. It wasn't until he was about halfway up the 455-foot structure that police finally spotted him.

Ciesielski kept climbing and reached the top in about eight minutes. Spectacular images on his blog show the surrounding pyramids and ancient dwellings.... Ciesielski took his time with his descent for safety reasons and was back on the ground in about 20 minutes, he writes. He was then taken into police custody... Officers declined to press charges on the condition that they delete all photographic evidence of his climb. Unbeknownst to police, Ciesielski had software that allowed him to recover the deleted images...."I didn't destroy anything. I didn't hurt anyone."

Seriously. I was on the Pyramid of the Moon at solstice with 100,000 other people. One false step and we’d be ‘doing the wave’ all the way down to the bottom.

I’ve climbed that pyramid.

You’re right; one stumble certainly would have created a nasty wave.

Yes. . .but things will get better.

With a new president, a president that values our strongest muslim ally in the mid-east, we will be back there in no time.

By the way, when you go be sure to go with a tour group. Not that you would be unsafe, it is just that tour groups will take care of all the “tips” that are needed to ensure a nice experience.

What I meant by too late for me to go to Egypt was not all about the political climate there. I am 75 years old and while my health is good, I have quite a few dietary problems that I doubt I could be in control of on a trip like that.

50 years ago my mother in law invited me to go to Egypt with her, we had been to Europe, England, Scotland and Ireland together and had a fine time. But then she uninvited me and went alone.

Understood, and yes, dietary requirements would be a challenge over there.

the reference to grain storage has been misinterpreted.

the belief is that the great pyramid is not a tomb. there is afterall no real evidence of a body having been there. The so called king’s chamber is a temperature, humidity controlled space, that is standard conditions, and the stone vessel is a standard measure. That is when filled with grain to the required depth, it is the standard by which other volumetric measures are measured.

The pyramid is a model of the earth to a very precise scale. Peter Thompkins relates it in his book
