US Marine vet sues high school, claiming daughter was all but forced to convert to Islam

The parents of a Maryland teenager are suing their daughter's high school over a world history lesson they claim was little more than Islamic indoctrination.

The Thomas More Law Center filed a lawsuit against La Plata High School on behalf of John and Melissa Wood, claiming the lesson favored a "sugar-coated version of Islam" over other religions and forced their 16-year-old child "to disparage her Christian faith," according to the law firm.

The parents said the class spent one day on Christianity, followed by two weeks on Islam.

And the 11th grader was "forced to profess and to write out the Shahada in worksheets and quizzes," the firm said.

"The Shahada is the Islamic Creed, 'There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.' For non-Muslims, reciting the statement is sufficient to convert one to Islam."

Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, said the favoritism did not stop there.

"The course also taught false statements such as Allah is the same God worshiped by Christians and Islam is a 'religion of peace,'" he said in court documents.

Thompson said "such discriminatory treatment of Christianity is an unconstitutional promotion of one religion over another."

According to the suit, the class was told "the Islamic religion is a fact while Christianity and Judaism are just beliefs," and were not allowed to opt out of the lesson on the basis of religious beliefs.

Wood was told his daughter would receive a zero if she didn't complete the assignments.

The Thomas More Law Center said the Wood family, who are Christians, "chose to remain faithful to God and refused to complete the assignments, even though failing grades would harm her future admission to college and her opportunities to obtain college scholarships."

Adding insult to injury, the father, a Marine veteran who was deployed in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, was banned from school grounds after he complained, according to the suit.

Charles County Schools released a statement about the world history class, insisting that "other religions are introduced when they influence or impact a particular historical era or geographic region."

"The particular unit in question is on the formation of Middle Eastern empires in which students learned the basic concepts of the Islamic faith and how it, along with politics, culture, economics and geography, contributed to the development of the Middle East," the school district said in the statement.

This poor example of an American school needs to be shuttered in shame. The entire school system is corrupted by pro-Islamic wrong-headed theory and everyone that had anything to do with this disgrace should be sacked.

The truth is that Islam contributed nothing except turn the countries they invaded into sh-t holes. All those who believe what the Koran and their imams teach are potential terrorists and, thanks to our complicit government, have unleashed these animals on us.

School administrators and teachers involved need to be sent to a big new federal prison somewhere in Northeast Alaska.

The act of writing forms very strong neurological connections and associations. As an example, when you sign your name to a loan contract it has significant meaning and commitment. Hence, why the written technique was used by the school similar to tactics used on prisoners of war. Read Robert Cialdini’s book Influence for more information.

If this parent gave a rat’s rear about his child’s education they’d have her in a private school, a parochial school, or home school.

Seems some folk just rather have a couple nice cars, a nice home, nice vacations, 1,000 cable channels, the latest iPhone, etc.

You’re on Caesar’s turf.

I don’t understand “forced”.
Are we dealing with a generation of parents not traing their child to defend themselves?

Enemy islamism straight from the top of this so-called Presidential administration.

You're on Caesar's turf.

But in America the people are Caesar and we do not have to put up with this.

Just pull your kid out of that school.

That school obviously has a sick, twisted social science teacher. But it might have excellent math and chemistry departments. So I do not automatically fault the parents for staying, and fighting back with a lawsuit.

What does bother me is that there are not dozens of lawsuits being filed there.

Nope. They love islam so much send them to Libya, Syria, Saudi, Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan or other garden spots. Give them a good dose of it.

Where do these fools come from and where the hell do they get off thinking they can do this crap?

We are out of the schools for the last 17 years. It was getting unacceptable in our little town. I had my first encounter with a principal when our oldest was in 6th grade and they were trying some mainstreaming experiment crap. My second was after Columbine when they went nuts and started shadowing the kids from class to class because some stupid little girls made false accusations. It was getting bad including the “history” teacher that was pumping the war of southern insurrection idea.

Today, if I had screwl age kids, they would be home schooled and never see a screwl house.

Here we go with the excuses and rationalizations.

"Yes, honey, you were butt-raped today but how about that baking soda volcano you made in science today? Wasn't that fun!?"

If it’s anything like the public schools in the Houston suburbs, it’s a strong academic school district where there was no compelling reason to turn to private schools. The dad is trying to effect change from within and “right the ship” of this school to get it back on track. Lots of curriculum gets tinkered with, unbeknownst to parents, and continues as long as nobody complains. Shining the light of publicity, through media exposure or a lawsuit, is very successful in educating an unsuspecting taxpaying public. School boards depend on votes of district residents. Superintendents are hired by the board, Principals are hired by the superintendent, Teachers hired by Principals, etc. Change the board, change the district.

Careful. You have no idea what their personal situation was - whether either of the other options that you mentioned could work for their family. We homeschooled our son but it was not easy and there are families who would not be able to do it.

If it’s a case where they could have done other options there’s still the possibility that they wanted to stay in the system to help protect both the families who don’t even know what their kids are getting at school and the society that has to deal with the fallout. Sometimes it’s not an easy decision as to whether to abandon the fight for society in favor of protecting family. Not an easy decision at all.

Granted, that homeschooling may be a way to lessen the effects of the nanny state on your own particular child.

If we run away from every instance of government oppression by saying "It can't be helped; it's on Caesar's turf," we'll end up "on Caesar's turf" in a concentration camp somewhere, wondering how we got there.

This is the time and place to fight the oppression and the hypocrisy. Kill the cancer when it's small, so it doesn't get big and kill you.

No FRiend, I am talking from personal experience. I taught for many years in an inner-city high school. The hallways were sometimes violent. But our chemistry department was excellent. We sent kids to compete in the Chemistry Olympics, and we often beat out teams from fancy suburban schools.

I would not fault any parent from pulling their kid out of that school because of the violence. But I would also not fault any parent for keeping a kid there because of the excellent chemistry program, or because poverty limited their choices.

Side note: I'm not bragging here. I taught physics at that school, not chemistry.
