fter months of campaigning and jockeying for position, the 2016 Presidential Election season officially gets underway Monday, Feb. 1, with the Iowa Caucuses.
Voters from Iowa's 99 counties will meet in caucus as the first step to determine who will represent the state at the Republican and Democratic national conventions.
However, a winter storm moving from the Intermountain West is likely to cause snow to spread over a large part of the central and northern Plains during Monday night and Tuesday.

As a former Iowan (born/raised there), it would take a monster storm to keep them getting out for business as usual.
A case of weather stations injecting monster storm fears into the Iowa caucuses.
If the first primary of the election were held in a different state the impact on our election would be profound. Iowa is a bad choice. One..the caucus system discourage many from showing up..it is held at night and takes up a lot of time versus balloting. Two..for now corn and ethanol is a big issue...
Three..the ballot is not secret, but by show of hands.
Another state should be first and the GOP should lead the way to changing it.
So am I
All the pansies would stay home, and Iowa's winter is no place for pansies.
If true, this should help Cruz.
Totally agree.
Playing the first two games of the season in 2012 +6 Obama states is a bad deal.
As of today, the major storm system is forecast to really impact Iowa’s weather on Tuesday, not Monday. This of course can change with time...the storm is still ~3k miles away from Iowa.
I never understand why Iowa and New Hampshire have outsized influence.
Where is it written that the GOP has to have a caucus in Iowa or a primary in New Hampshire, in order to choose convention delegates? There’s no law that says we have to choose convention delegates at that time, in that manner.
I understand things evolved this way, but just saying, if this system of a handful of small early states choosing the nominee isn’t working, then change it.
There is no reason that the GOP or any party has to be bound by the results in Iowa and New Hampshire. They could pull out and not even participate in the Primary and caucus system.

That’s what I was going to say. Perhaps flurries on Monday night, but real snow in the current forecast (1) hits after the caucuses are over, and (2) would upset delicate liberals but would not affect most conservatives I know from Iowa.
Snow is for *late* Monday night as in most of the snowfall is early Tuesday morning.
