Mexican drug cartels continue to fascinate the minds of Americans who tend to idolize outlaw gunmen with fast cash, fancy cars, guns and women. However, few realize that Mexican drug cartels are as ruthless and sadistic as Middle Eastern terror groups like ISIS with whom they actually have many tactics in common.
For most in America, the closest they have come to a drug cartel is the small-time drug peddler in the street corner, the glamorous TV shows, or the Mexican narco-ballads. However, taking a step back and looking at their entire structure, and how those drugs got from Central America or Mexico to the street corner in Chicago, can help show some how drug cartels are in fact more dangerous than Middle Eastern terror groups.

Yes they are. Several nights ago the house next door was shot up about midnight. The homeowner had been working with police to ID some local drug dealers. 2 shooters in the car, and they were in no hurry to leave once they finished shooting, I saw it as it happened.

No matter what you think of the war on drugs, there is a huge change that is not being reported. Over the past 7 years the cartels and their affiliates have taken over much of the interstate drug trafficking in the US. Those used to be good paying American criminal jobs.
These were hispanics doing the shooting. Until recently, there were no hispanics in the area.
Yes, there were always drug dealers in the “bad” part of town, but they did not go shooting up houses in the burbs.
From what I read and see, the Cartels are no more dangerous than the Mexican government as they are mostly the same people.

Because Obama / Holder made a deal giving carte blanche to the SINALOA cartel...
This was substantiated when a high level cartel boss’s son was tried in Chicago.
The defense lawyer produced documentation that a deal was cut.
The deal was Sinaloa got carte blanche in return for info on competing cartels...

When I retired from the military, I picked up a job with DHS flying for CBP. Even if we ever got the border under control, I could easily get to retirement chasing all the criminals on Dreamer status inside the country.
The rise of the drug cartels was implemented by bribery, a very common occurrence in Mexico from small matters such as ticket fixing to phone installation to big money corruption in government monopolies such as Pemex and the Corn monopolies where the two largest companies–GIMSA and MINSA–account for 70% and 27% of the market..
So when an illegal substance began to earn large amounts of money, the normal procedures in Mexico—plata o plomo (silver or lead meaning bribes or death)—naturally took root. The heads of the cartels virtually buy a franchise from high government officials who will protect them until the heat becomes too great and they are killed off—and a new franchisee picks up the territory.
