It's wearing me out. (vanity)
me

Back in 1990 Trump might have littered. Cruz might be an alien. Someone tweeted that Trump said he wants to shoot someone. Cruz is in the pocket of the big banks because of where his wife works.

I've never seen anything like this. Some FR folks are evidently searching the Internet for rumors and gossip, then posting it here as fact. Thank goodness for the Kitty ping. It's the main reason I stop by at FR these days.

Politics here and now is beanbag compared to the vast majority of its history.

Thank you for the most needed Scripture reference.

You weren't here for the Terry Shiavo threads.

I was. FR lurker, then member. And it broke my heart. Shiavo was murdered with the approval of the state.

Cruz supporters tend to see Trump as some horrible liberal who must, must be stopped.

That's not my understanding. I can't speak for every Cruz supporter, but this so call "Trump hater" stuff is baloney.

As I see it, it's the same argument I would have regarding Kasich, Cristy, or possibly new to the dance, Bloomberg.

Making the assertion that Trump is not Conservative enough and backing it up as you would any argument certainly does not say, horrible, must be stopped or I hate him.

That is a perceived notion in the mind of the person on the other side of the argument and it's just plain wrong.

Yea, the silly season!

Whigs senselessly call 1848 presidential hopeful Lewis Cass a “pot-bellied, mutton-headed cucumber” in response to Democrats’ accusations that opposing candidate Zachary Taylor is, among other things, a crappy dresser.

1844, Democrats backing James K. Polk claim that Henry Clay had sex with whores and, furthermore, broke all 10 of the commandments; in lieu of evidence, they declare simply that the details are “too disgusting to appear in public print.”

1828, Jackson supporters accuse Adams of having premarital sex with his wife and being a pimp, claiming he arranged an American hooker for Czar Alexander I.

1800 Federalists claim Republican candidate Thomas Jefferson is dead.

Karl Rove-engineered robo-calls help Bush win the 2000 Republican nomination by asking primary voters if they would be “more likely or less likely to vote for John McCain if you knew that he fathered an illegitimate black child?” McCain speculates that “there is a special place in hell for people like those.” You know what happened after that.

The 1828 race, Adams supporters attack Jackson’s family, calling his dead mother “a common prostitute, brought to this country by the British soldiers,” after whose service she “married a MULATTO MAN, with whom she had several children of which number General JACKSON IS ONE!!!” Jackson’s wife, who was previously married and (accidentally) not completely divorced prior to her second marriage, they call a “convicted adulteress.” When she dies within days of Jackson’s victory, he blames Adams’ vicious campaign practices, exclaiming at her funeral, “May God Almighty forgive her murderers as I know she forgave them. I never can.”

If you mean that the acrimony will end because the primary season is about to end because of a Donald Trump early victory, I would say you are half right and half wrong. You may well be right that Donald Trump will prevail and prevail early in becoming the putative nominee of the Republican Party. But the rancor will not stop with Donald Trump's nomination because Donald Trump causes the rancor.

Every primary season has seen some fierce bickering on Free Republic but this cycle the animus is almost toxic and that is certainly because of the toxic personality of Donald Trump. There is no reason to believe that Donald Trump has the qualities of character to forbear from his churlishness when he becomes the nominee or even when he becomes president.

I fear we are on the threshold of a real cheapening of our political culture.

I gave up coming here in 2012 for a while because of the crap like we see going on now, so I don’t know if it was worse then or not.

Then again, Romney didn’t exactly inspire me to fight FOR him, but by then we were stuck with him.

I don’t do football, so Presidential elections are my Super Bowl every 4 years.

So far, this has been one helluva pre-season, but the fans are behaving more like soccer fans

Good analysis and post. One thing i find sad is the mocking of Cruz when at one time he was a hero around here, as he should be. He stood with us when no one else would, he would take to the Senate floor and speak for us when no one else would.

Side note: i will vote for whomever the R. candidate is at the end of the day.

It’s bad enough how the supporters of the two major candidates are going after the rival candidate, but the venom displayed for the rival candidate’s supporters is just insane. It’s useless to try to carry on a conversation about policy positions. It’s strictly mud wrestling time, 24/7.

Some can’t control their passions. Some are deliberately destructive. I believe the left targets Free Republic. And I think most of the vitriol comes from them.

The very same conservatives who deplore the cowardly Republicans for not standing up to Barack Obama are the very first to abandon the one Republican who stood up against Barack Obama all night long on the Senate floor with a urine bag tied to his leg defending them against Democrats and Republicans alike.

The next time the Republicans run up the white flag, those Trump supporters might recall what they did to Ted Cruz because elected Republicans certainly will not forget. They will know that the reward of courage is to be forsaken by conservatives.

I too will hold my nose and support Trump if that is the option.
