Today I join some 20 other writers in making the case against Donald Trumpâs presidential candidacy. The venerable National Review, founded by William F. Buckley, Jr., assembled a group of diverse critics to argue that Trump is not a conservative, not an advocate of limited government, but rather (as the editorial asserts) âa philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.â

Good article. Trump is as big of a fraud as Hillary and Obama.
[[David Boaz is the executive vice president of the Cato Institute]]
Boaz is also an open-borders homosexual who favors imposing gay marriage on the country.
Really?
You mean he put compartmentalized access only information (above top secret) on a private server, like Hillary?
Or that he defended the rapist of a 12-year-old girl, laughing at the victim, and then went on to screen her husband from the consequences of his sexual predation, before running on the theme of a "War on Women" like Hllary?
Or that he announced that "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" like Obama?
Or that he ran the economy into the ground and yet promotes an 'official' unemployment rate of around 5%, despite a labor force participation rate at the same level as Jimmuh Dhimmi Carter?
Troll.
Trump or Cruz? Why is the GOPe lining up behind Trump and going hard against Cruz?
Simple. Ask yourselves this. What happens after either of them is in the office? After Trump the size of government wouldn’t have changed. He would be a much better manager of the government and of the economy. Polls would show a much greater confidence in the government. The next President who is a Democrat or liberal Republican would take on the reigns and it’s back to business as usual. Whatever Trump has done will be easily undone.
After Cruz, he will usher in a conservative era in governance. He will line up the government to serve conservatism, quickly undoing Obama’s executive orders, and reducing the power of the central government with power shifting toward the states. HE WILL HELP OTHER CONSERVATIVES BE ELECTED TO CONGRESS!
Now do you understand why the GOPe will even go for Trump just to stop Cruz? The next President after Cruz will see a weakened central government and a more conservative GOP in Washington. I beseech those of you who are true conservatives, Cruz is the first real principled one who we have seen in Washington for a long time. Don’t miss this opportunity to break what he calls the “Washington cartel”!
Much of what Obama has done is like a severed artery.
ALL ELSE MUST WAIT.
And the fault that we are in this position, is that of the Dems, of (I assume) Karl Rove, and the GOPe who lied through their foul teeth about opposing Obama.
The difference between Trump and Hayek's The Road to Serfdom is that we are not searching for "A Strongman who will Make Things Work" (TM). We are looking for someone to restore America to at least a place of relative safety, even if tenous, from which we can begin to work.
Cruz will face more opposition to his agenda from the GOPe in Congress then Obama ever did; with the press eager to prove (over Cruz's political fate) that they "are NOT" lapdogs...(they're just lapdogs for Marxists and Muslims).
Trump will face less opposition; is impervious to the press, since he follows the Gorilla Mindset, and "SJWs always lie" antidote of never apologizing; *and* he has broad populist appeal: NOT for "give us more goodies" but "For God's sake, somebody burn these leeches off of me."
Cruz *is* the fallback position if The Donald suffers a "mysterious plane crash" during the campaign, though.
He funded her. He said she’d be a great president. He said Bill’s obstruction of justice, perjury, and sequel harassment was unimportant. He had them at his third wedding to the nude model.
And now he's running against her.
He said sheâd be a great president.
And that was before she was Secretary of State and showed herself to be unfit for the job.
He said Billâs obstruction of justice, perjury, and sequel harassment was unimportant.
In terms of the campaign itself: because Hillary herself has far bigger issues, and she is the one who is running.
He had them at his third wedding to the nude model.
Jealous much? I'll buy you some vaseline and Kleenex.
He sounds more like your type and you keep your vase line for yourself. Lol
I don’t need vaseline. I’m not a cuck.
Whatever, strange one. Keep your vaseline
More D.C.’ism?
They all swim around a sewer while asking, “You smell something? I don’t smell a thing. Might be coming in from outside...”.
Guess the cocktail circuit was drying out. The gnashing of teeth and angst with the threat of ending the party.
I called Trump a populist about 30 seconds after his announcement. With a populist there are always things they say that we can readily agree with, things we have longed to hear someone say for a long time. The populist then convinces that he is the only person on earth able or willing to get these things done.
The populist ever the blustering bully lauds his initial popularity and demeans any person or organization that refuses acclaim his accumen. The one thing a populist will not give you is how things will be done. I will get a country to do something but I will tell you how to do it.
The populist will tell you what he will do but not how he will govern; and that is dangerous.
You have described Trump pretty well, although I would rather have someone who simply wants to push greatness than a more specific agenda that will be frustrated by poltiics. Another important issue to me is character. Trump is something of a megalomaniac, but has some decent personal values.
Just while. So many of the recent sign ups are wearing suicide vests. They blow up so young these days.

That alone would have been ZOT worthy.
