How Ted Cruz Came to Know Jesus
The Resurgent ^ | January 20, 2016 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 01/20/2016 6:31:51 PM PST by DaveyB

I hear friends say Ted Cruz sounds like a preacher. They say he is using the gospel to round up voters. They don't like it and they are not sure if Ted is authentic. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who watched his sister consumed by a heroine addiction. She died of an overdose. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who maxed out his credit cards to rescue his sister’s son from that situation. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who, as a boy, was abandoned by his father and watched his mother struggle. And the Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior and credits the Lord with bringing back his father.

Ted Cruz is a not an academic evangelical. He's a country music evangelical. He lost his father, found Jesus, got back his father, lost his sister, and did what it took to keep his family above water. When he gets on a stage and connects with Christian audiences, yes he is trying to woo Christians to his side, but he also believes in the power of scripture. This is not a stunt for Ted Cruz. His father walked out on the family, lost himself in a bottle, and was finally rescued by a Bible Study and a preacher willing to debate and answer questions. That preacher's time saved Rafael Cruz and the family was restored.

Cruz supporters want to tell you the story of Rafael and Ted and how they came to have a very personal relationship with Jesus with this terrific video. They want to tell you why it matters and what it means to the way Cruz would govern. CruzFaithInAction.com is a new website set up to share that story. The website has been put together by Keep the Promise PAC. My good friend Ben Howe edited the video.

I have seen the video. Just watch the first five minutes. Go do it.

Ted Cruz not only knows where Second Corinthians is, he knows what it means.

I think he would make a splendid pastor. I think he should consider it. I could see him having one of those mega churches. He gets to sing country music with his congregation. His wife could work at GS but be available to run the bake sale or whatever. The daughters could be part of the children’s chorus. I just see that as Ted Cruz. President......not in a million years.

AMEN and AMEN......as I said it would be better if he would just SHUT UP about something he has no understanding of. Very embarrassing for him.

"Well, I do," Trump said. "I think it's great. I consider communion to be a very important thing. You know, when I go to church and I take communion I consider that asking for forgiveness in my own way. And I do think it"s a great thing and I think it's an important thing and it makes you feel good."

Makes you feel good? And it's asking for forgiveness in my own way?

This man has no clue what communion is all about. Donald it isn't about you feeling good, and it isn't a party.

Did you read Cruz’s reply to a simple question. He talked it to death. Bottom line from all that is no, he will not fight gay marriage. Actually, I think he might have said “NO” initially, anyway.

So, your answer is that you actually do not understand.

Could you please explain to me what I don’t understand? Cruz will not fight gay marriage. That is what he said.

Gay marriage has been put to the voters in many states, and it was overwhelmingly voted down in the states; maybe only one or two voted for it.

What is Cruz’s plan for that? The odds that gay marriage will be voted on again in a state is a waste of time. If it were, it [gay marriage] would be voted down, and the courts would nullify the vote immediately.

That is why Cruz’s idea of handing it off to the states is mere evasion on his part. The Supreme Court stepped in and took the issue out of the states’ hands. The only way to stop it now is an amendment to the Constitution.

If every state supreme court in the nation did what Judge Moore of Alabama is doing, it would be stopped. Do you really think that will happen?

The court system in the country has to be overwhelmed, and the only method to do that is an amendment to the Constitution.

You are so disingenuous. Your passion for Trump is leading you to lie about Cruz. Pathetic. You are so consistently such a nasty liar for hire. Gotta lie to get Trump elected, though, right? Whatever it takes.

Do *you* think that promoting real marriage over so-called “gay marriage” should be any presidential candidate’s “top priority”? I don’t.

Again, you lie. Pathetic.

The bottom line is that it is part of defending the Constitution which is a priority to him. He has stated that he will vigorously defend religious freedom which will protect those with moral objections. He will defend States Rights. He proposed having some type of confidence vote on judges after so many years. I don't think there is a better candidate to pick new judges than Cruz.

I'll look into it some more to see if he has any more specific proposals for the near term.

“Again, you lie. Pathetic.”

“Pathetic”????????????????????????????????

from Politico, 12/23/15:

But in December, behind closed doors at a big-dollar Manhattan fundraiser, the quickly ascending presidential candidate assured a Republican gay-rights supporter that a Cruz administration would not make fighting same-sex marriage a top priority.

In a recording provided to POLITICO, Cruz answers a flat “No” when asked whether fighting gay marriage is a “top-three priority,” an answer that pleased his socially moderate hosts but could surprise some of his evangelical backers.

Okay, genius, where have I lied?

Yes, Ted Cruz is not making “gay marriage” a “top priority.”

Should he?

No. He should not. Other things take priority.

But ... and get this subtlety ... it still *is* a priority for Ted Cruz. Just not a “top priority.”

But you won’t get it. Since you’re in bed with Trump, and have obviously become blind to facts and truth. Trump at all costs, even if truth must suffer.

Thanks for posting that.

A radio ad from a pro-Huckabee PAC was running locally a few weeks ago. In the ad, someone asked Ted Cruz if fighting gay marriage would be a top priority. The sound bite of his response, in his own voice, ended abruptly after he said all of this: “No,”...

It was obvious that he didn’t stop there but continued by saying something Huckabee’s supporters (both of them!) didn’t want me to hear. Now I know.

Okay, but that Christian doesn’t understand the economy.

He understands Austrian Capitalism. Look into it.

Trump is also Christian

Nominally so, if at all, by the evidence.

and does understand the economy.

He's a neo-keynesian 3rd-way guy. wow.

I have urged the Cruz campaign to bring back a “Get the Facts” tab (that they had for his Senate run) to refute these distortions. They can’t take for granted that people have heard the truth about them.

"He understands Austrian Capitalism. Look into it. "

What makes you think Cruz is a supporter of the Austrian school. I've not seen that. And if he is, then Cruz is a bigger idiot on economic matters than I thought.

You know the thief on the cross didn’t clearly ask for forgiveness either. He acknowledged his sin, that Jesus was Lord, and then asked Jesus to remember him. That was a sufficient enough plea for mercy that Jesus honored it.

Maybe Trump doesn’t think about communion like you do. You probably focus on Jesus’s sacrifice and feel somber. Trump apparently focuses on forgiveness during communion and it makes him feel good.

Trump says he loves God. That he will defend Christianity. That he prayed for his children. He prayed with Christian leaders. He supports Christmas against the war on Christmas. And he does have a record of doing some good things and helping people.

Bottom line is that we need someone who understands the economy and how to manage large organizations efficiently. Trump is that man. Cruz is not.

We’re not election national pastor, but if we were, I’m not so sure Trump couldn’t do the job better than Cruz anyway.
