A lot of drivers in Albuquerque's North Valley have seen a woman holding a sign saying "killing me" that is pointed at a Taco Bell under construction, and the woman's dead serious about it. She even painted her back fence, which faces the project, with the words, "Taco B Is Killing Me."
"It's a war zone. There are explosions. There are bombs going off. I can't even describe it," said Kathy Wiley, who isn't fed up with the food at Taco Bell, but rather the construction. The construction on the building is happening on 4th Street, north of Griegos. Denver-based Alvarado Construction is handling the project, which sits less than 30 feet from Wiley's home.
She says from sunup to sundown, the noise and vibrations from the project are relentless.
"Everything shakes. The windows shake, everything on the walls shake," she said. "The door frames shake. The floors shake."
She says it's been this way since work began Nov. 16.
"The noise increased, the impact increased, the construction increased," she said. "It got to the point where my blood pressure started going up, up, up and now it is just under 200." Wiley wishes Alvarado would put her up somewhere until the project is done. At one point, she brought in a company executive to see the impact on her home. "I said, 'what resolution is there?'" Wiley said. "She said, 'we'll be in touch.'"
But Wiley says that was the end of it. She says she was also told Dec. 9 the project would take one more month, but it's still far from finished. So, as Wiley sits and worries about the impact on her health and home, she wants everyone to see her message.
"I wrote, 'Taco B is Killing me,' because they are," she said.
Wiley says she's spoken with some attorneys about possible legal action, but was told she was out of luck because she can choose to leave on her own. Alvarado Construction did not immediately return requests for comment.

Doubt there any explosions. Pretty sure the vibrations are from those compactors tamping down the material before concrete or asphalt is laid down. They do sound like a Huey, but she should lighten up. It’s not going to last forever.
How long does it take to build a Taco Bell? This seems excessive.
She seems to be getting bad legal advice.

Ingrate. Soon she will be able to walk a and get a Taco Loco like she was walking into the kitchen.
Most commercial structures around the ABQ metro area (restaurants, anyway) that I've seen take 6 months to a year. They just built a Chik-fil-A in our town, and it was announced in April, construction started in June and it opened in December. The heavy work was two phases, first for the foundation and framing, then the parking lot/driveways came later, closer to the end.
It used to be a Pizza Hut and wing street. It does look like they’re totally reconstructing the building.
