Trump Made No Donations To 9/11 Charities [Opinion]

Billionaire was a zero in aftermath of terror attack

In the aftermath of the 2001 terror attack on the World Trade Center, Donald Trump, a billionaire son of New York City, did not make a single charitable donation to any of the not-for-profit groups that provided aid to survivors, rescue workers, or the families of cops and firemen who died trying to save others, Internal Revenue Service records show.

While business moguls raced to write seven-figure checks and schoolchildren emptied their piggy banks, Trump’s charitable foundation--the vehicle through which the Republican presidential candidate’s philanthropy trickles--apparently did not feel the need or responsibility to offer such financial help.

Trump, who frequently reminds the public that he is worth TEN BILLION DOLLARS, is president of the Donald J. Trump Charitable Foundation, which the developer founded nearly 30 years ago. . . .

Nop6. Direct assistance is better than going through a charity. Wounded warriors, for example, has huge advertising expenses that far outstrip the cost of actual help to wounded warriors. When floods hit our area the last thing we did was go through red cross. We went to the towns affected and got cash in the hands of churches.

Yep. I feel bad about that because Wounded Warriors is based in my neighborhood. They were planning on building a huge new HQ down the road. Never heard what happened to that plan. Believe it or not it was pitched as jobs coming to the area. So much for the blown to pieces vets. It was all about HQ jobs.

There are many people who donate privately, never or rarely taking a deduction.

They don’t want to itemize and view their donations as acts of altruism...

Big deal. A friend has a picture of me standing next to Bill Clinton.

I went to the event specifically to see him work a crowd.

I was damn near mesmerized and almost applauded the guy.

Hell of a salesman but, I don’t agree with anything he says.

I think you took his statement out of context. If Trump has the nominee set by the time the primary elections in his state come about, he may screw Hillary by casting for Sanders in the rat primary.

Did you actually read the Daily Mail story you linked?

But if the foundation's giving is only a small slice of Trump's overall charitable philanthropy, there are no public records saying so.

“Mr. Trump has donated close to half a million dollars to organizations as a result of the 9/11 tragedy including the American Red Cross and the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Fund, in addition to a total of $102 million donated to hundreds of charitable foundations over a relatively short period of time, many of which helped people affected by 9/11,” campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks told the Daily News.

In addition, Trump’s “summary of net worth” statement, released in June after the launch of his campaign, claimed the mogul “has been a major contributor to both charitable organizations and organizations dedicated to the preservation of open space, by donating valuable parcels of land throughout the country.”

“Over the last five years, in excess of $102,000,000 has been contributed for such purposes by Mr. Trump,” the statement read.

Amen. How about the family whose child was flown by Trump to get medical help after airlines turned them down? He, like many others, do wonderful things without anyone ever knowing about it. That is how it should be done.

Nahhhh. Probably not so much (private, quiet donations behind the scenes, that is.).

Not from the guy who never ceases to tell us how rich he is, the guy who tells us all how much he's spent for this and that, the guy who likes to tell us how much his buildings, cars, plane and houses are worth, including how much he pays in taxes.

Nope, if Trump had given any amount at all, he like most everyone else, would have at least listed it on his taxes and taken a deduction.

Not criticizing Trump because he, like so many wealthy live on both coasts and politicians like Al Gore, the Bidens, leave the donating to those of us in the middle income,

Yes, I read it. And clearly you did not. Again:

But if the foundation's giving is only a small slice of Trump's overall charitable philanthropy, there are no public records saying so.
This from a guy who bragged that he would take any deduction he could to avoid paying taxes. Yet there is no tax record of him taking deductions for the charitable giving his campaign alleges. Furthermore, the giving they do allege is to a charity that funds Planned Parenthood.

If you’re even considering voting for Sanders, I suggest you find another forum to post. No conservative would EVER even in their most deluded moment consider voting for an ADMITTED communist. Yikes.

Yet there are quite a few here willing to vote for someone who is to the left of Sanders on Kelo v. New London - Donald Trump himself.

Did YOU read the paragraphs above the caption you cited?

You know, the ones that say the following—and BTW, what Trump does privately is on no public record and private tax returns are not public information:

A DailyMail.com review of the foundation’s tax returns from 1999 to 2013, the most recent year for which records are available, indicate that it has contributed more than $10 million to charities in that period of time.
The single largest recipient was the Police Athletic League of New York City, which supports coaching and mentoring programs that put law enforcement officers in contact with at-risk youth. The Trump Foundation has donated at least $828,125.
Next in order was the United Way of New York City, a poverty-fighting charity clearinghouse that the Trump Foundation funded with a one $250,000 check in 2004 and another in 2006.
Most of its other six-figure grantees are health-related charities, including a total of $467,000 to Operation Smile, which fixes facial deformities in needy children; $445,000 to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute; and $325,000 to New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Others are overtly political, including a much-remarked pair of contributions to the William J. Foundation totaling $110,000 in 2009 and 2010.

Trump’s donations to the Wounded Warrior Project have not been reported by the media, and the actual amount that he donated has not been disclosed. The billionaire real-estate mogul did it discretely, not attracting attention to himself.
