CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - Donald Trump, the billionaire who until now hasn't had to spend much of his own money to run for president, has made the influence of money in politics a theme of his campaign. He has suggested his Republican rivals are "puppets" for seeking the support of GOP donors like the Koch brothers. And he has defended his own contributions to both Republican and Democratic politicians as the cost of doing business in a world in which officeholders can be bought and paid for.
Here in Iowa Saturday, Trump made his most blunt condemnation yet of what he says is the corrupting influence of money in politics. As a businessman, Trump explained, "I've got to give to them, because when I want something, I get it. When I call, they kiss my ass." And that includes, he said, the Republicans who are running against Trump in the GOP presidential race.
"These politicians, they're so bad," Trump told a full house at the historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake:
You know, it's interesting. I was looking at the ones I'm running against. I've contributed to most of them - can you believe it? I've contributed to most of them. And one of them said, No, I don't think you've contributed to me. They found out I did. I contribute to everybody. I've given to Democrats. I've given to Hillary. I've given to everybody, because that was my job. I've got to give to them. because when I want something I get it. When I call, they kiss my ass. It's true. They kiss my ass. It's true.
Yeah, that’s why Cruz fought and won cases before the Supreme Court protecting U.S. sovereignty.
“I would certainly brag about that. /s
I guess heâs honest, if nothing else.”
He’s pointing out that any politician that heeds donors can be bought. Look at Cruz’s ‘evolving’ amnesty stance. When a conservative won’t take a conservative stance, they are bought.
You must live on another planet.
What you have just described is what the political class is giving us now, you think voting for the same thing over and over is going to change that?
I could go on.
You should come down first, yer on a hell of a trip.
Look, I have no illusion Trump is the ideal candidate or certainly not as conservative as I would like him to be. But I suffer no illusion that any one man is going to turn around 100 years of progs step by step destruction of this country.
When DC and it's corrupt practices are revealed and destroyed we will have taken the first step in the other direction....with out that step, it will never be reversed.
IMO, Trump is the only one who can take that step.
All that said, I do like Cruz, support him and would gladly vote for him should he be the nominee.
GS plus CfG contributions come to about 776K. That's small potatoes. Donations to Cruz are worth 45 million.
Patriot David Barton controls the conservative, closed borders superPAC worth over 35 million.
Plus their are the large number of patriotic small supporters.
And please do something about the "um" writing impediment. ;)
I was originally a Cruz supporter. Donated to him myself.
Then came the votes (Corker, TPA), followed by the bizarre explanations for those votes and the political grandstanding that he accompanied them with. The squishy stand on immigration was because of his BIG DONORS.
Then the ties to the old Bush clan confirmed for me that he was just another establishment politician who craves power.
I have no illusion about changing anyone’s mind about who they vote for in the primary. I don’t search the web looking for negative articles to post about Ted. But then again, I’m not a paid political operative either. Just the owner of a small trucking company that hates Ted’s tax plan and doesn’t trust a single politician.
“So, I guess the question is: Who is worse, the buyer or the one who is bought.”
Unless one is a multi-billionaire in real estate, you don’t know what palms need to be greased. Just to get a permit for an addition here, we were warned not to piss off the local inspector.
Government is too big, too intrusive, but we’re trying to operate within its confines. Until the reset.
You must live on another planet. What you have just described is what the political class is giving us now, you think voting for the same thing over and over is going to change that?
You have a reading comprehension problem. And you are so clueless about your own candidate that don't know that your own candidate Donald J. Trump is for the above list of political class items that I posted.
Guess my point flew right over your head.
Glad to know you think your guy is a prostitute though, most honest thing I’ve seen you post.
I am a Texan, I voted for Cruz three times in 2012, name one thing Senator Cruz has done for Texas. I will not vote for Senator Cruz ever again.
Since campaigns can’t collude with PACs, those “small potatoes” contributions aren’t that at all. Those are direct contributions that his campaign can use in any way they want.
Combine that with the fact that Heidi is a director at GS, and they hold far more sway than you dare admit.
CFG, GS will pull the strings, just as they have always done with all the other candidates.
Time and time again it has been shown the individual contributors mean squat to politicians until election time....even then it's all just talk.
Sorry, I'm not falling for the "I'll hold this Charlie Brown, you run and kick it" again
TDS on full display here. You’re pathetic. Posting articles about Trump when your own guy is taking my 10’s of millions of dollars from PACs and other people who will tell him exactly what to do. Of course there’s an obvious reason why Ted has had so many flip flops since he’s been running. It’s very simple. His donors control him. But I forgot. Ted only takes good money, everyone else takes bad money.
Trumps problem is that after he bought politicians he used those politicians to try and steal private property for the benefit of Trump. Now it used to be true that conservatives would throw overboard any politician that saw property rights as something less than sacrosanct. That, evidently, is no longer the case.
That case was a no brainer, does anyone really think the US Supreme Court would cede power to the so called world court? No freakin way.
$700,000 is nothing to sneeze at - Club for Growth; it is a focus point, whereas small donors are not.
The decision was 5/4.
Reminds me of the scene in the movie Back to School when Rodney Dangerfield gives the "business professor" the realities of opening and running a business...classic.
"Now Ted just switched his views on ethanol. He was totally against ethanol, now all the sudden he's for it, you know, it' s Iowa and he's for it."
The statement is an out-and-out lie. Vote for the person who "wins" this way at your own risk. I heed my tagline, which took a long time to sink in.
Cruz will win Texas.
What really sucks is that conservatives will argue over who’s better. And the ones who end up having their candidate falling on their sword, might possibly just sit on their hands on Election night ‘16 because he wasn’t “conservative enough”.
Hillary 2016 with that attitude.
