It's a brand new year, America, and the U.S. Postal Service has just introduced its annual batch of 2016 stamps.

Among the stamps is a purple-and-gold stamp celebrating the two most significant festivals in Islam: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

The stamp's gold calligraphy (by Mohamed Zakaria of Arlington, Va.) reads Eidukum mumbarak, which translates as: "May your Eid be bountiful (or blessed)."

The stamp features no actual imagery other than the calligraphy and a few words in English.

I use the Johnny Cash stamps for bills, to cover up the “Put stamp here” on the envelope and not show through.

It’s a reciprocity agreement. Goatherd countries print Christmas and Hanukkah stamps and in turn we print Goatherd stamps.

Oh yes. Really.

Oh, and BTW. To commemorate the Obama presidency the USPO has announced a run of “Zippy The Pinhead” stamps next year. The “Zippy” stamps are a cost-saving measure as these stamps can be used to honor either Barack Obama or the voters who elected him.

But they’ve been using the same Madonna & Child stamp for years.

Years back I asked for some Reagan stamps in the Butte MT main post office (Dewey).

The counter guy said he’d look but had probably wiped his ass with them.

He did “find” a book of them, I paid and left.

Haven’t seen him since when going through Butte MT, don’t know if he was promoted or fired (I never said a thing to him or anyone in the PO - until now)
