Merry Christmas, fellow Freepers! Once again, it is Christmas Eve and once again, many of us find ourselves, for various reasons, alone. Many of us have circumstances that have led to a solo Christmas Eve. Mine: My marriage fell apart in 2009. Part of my agreement with my ex-wife is that she has our daughter Christmas Eve and Christmas morning and she is with me the rest of Christmas day. Not a perfect solution, but I would rather say âhelloâ than âgoodbyeâ to my little girl on Christmas. That, alas, means that on the Eve of our most family-oriented of holidays I find myself here. By myself. No big deal. Iâm used to it and have found I donât mind at all. Anyone else out there flying solo this evening?
You got snow? It’s foggy and warm here. YUK. Ironically my sister was born on a warm Christmas and I was just reminding her.
LOL that’s what my x would say, I’m sure. He’s a lib now and last time we talked he called me the Christian Taliban.
I’m sorry to hear about your health and relationship. I know how that can be. Been divorced twice. One my decision and the other I knew wasn’t going to work but I have my son (first didn’t want kids) so I am thankful. I think of everything as an adventure now. After being with the first and going through hell (being in VT mountains I loved and being absolutely miserable) nothing will ever be as bad. My kid being deployed was stressful but nothing is worse than a bad relationship. It takes time to transition but just take it a day at a time. Have a blessed New Year!
Yup, there are some symptoms that are common to both but having them doesn’t mean both. Check out neuroscientistnews.com but remember only 25% of new studies can be replicated. I personally don’t believe there will not be any improvement. There is just too much they don’t know. Look at how much they know about infants that they didn’t know before.
I don’t know your specifics but I’m OLD and still growing new brain cells. Other parts of the brain take over for lost parts, too. Check out aphasia and singing to see how remarkable we are. Freepmail me if you wish.
Great thread, Skooz. We need more of these to let folks simply connect. No agenda, no angle, just engage, say hi, and build each other up. Merry Christmas.
Yep. First time in my life. I have the flu.
Not good for mom to get the flu at Christmas.
I am having a bit of a pity party.
I’m all alone here, too in SC :( family & friends are in NY. Even the wife went home overseas to her family till after new year’s (father is ill) Really sucks, but I guess I’ll survive. Christmas ain’t what it used to be, anyway. After Mom died in 2013, it’s pretty much over. :(
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
I had a loss earlier this year that has been very hard to deal with. Especially now during Christmas. Getting into the spirit this year has not been easy. I’ve been keeping busy baking and have a big day ahead tomorrow, which I will be cooking for all. I made about nine batches of cookie dough last night and this morning and spent six hours baking earlier. I am thankful for my husband and children and will give my all to them and try to make it a little brighter.
Land of snow right now.
Merry Christmas - spent many years running from Biloxi to Rochester, NY after my divorce because I needed to stay tight with my kids.
I always think of NM as so warm and dry and forget there is beautiful high desert that experiences snow. Old friend just moved from Corvallis, to, of all places, Kansas.
Thank you. I'll head to my mom's house noonish and pick up my daughter shortly after and spend the rest of the day with her and other family at mom's house. Truly a blessing.

Wow. That is love and commitment. I can't really complain that I have to drive all the way across town to spend time with her.
Merry Christmas and a wonderful and prosperous New Year to you. God bless.
You’re welcome and we do. Jesus taught us to.
Merry Christmas, FRiend
Merry Christmas to you and your little one.
Christmas Eve was church and then dinner with friends. Snow, icy drizzle and 0 F last night made the drive home a little challenging.
Christmas Day? Just me and my ‘girls’, 6 year old ‘baby’ dog and her 7 year old ‘mama’ dog. First time in four Christmases, since Sandra left, that I’ve really prepared a REAL Christmas meal rather than just left overs, or some such. No kids and nearest family 2,000 miles away.
Tonight its Christmas dinner with my Lord and Saviour, listening to ‘Tenore’, ‘The Master’s Singers’ and perhaps Handel’s ‘Messiah’, praising Him. Miss the ex-Mrs. A Formerly Proud Canadian, but dinner with, and in honour of Jesus? What could be better?
God bless you and yours, and Merry Christmas!
My husband loved Christmas too. It brought me great pleasure to decorate the house just like he was here.
Thank you for your kind words. Happy New Year to you and yours.
Contented listening to classical Christmas music. My dog ate well. I had a salad a few hours ago. Bought some Lebanon bologna and cheeses. Snacked on that some today with some home made lentil stew. It was raining here. Sipping beer and head in up for some rack time. The gym totally kicked my buttock this afternoon.
