Bright lights strung on American trees, rooftops and lawns account for 6.63 billion kilowatt hours of electricity consumption every year, according to a recent blog post by the Center for Global Development.

That's more than the national electricity consumption of many developing countries. El Salvador for one, uses 5.35 billion kilowatt hours, while Ethiopia consumes 5.30 billion and Tanzania 4.81 billion.

So? What's the point.

At least these homeowners don't depend on foreign aid from the US to pay for the electricity and feed themselves. As Trump would say - "Those countries are Losers."

And the lights should be registered with the EPA.

And your lottery permit displayed on a 12' X 18' sign on your front lawn.

Inspector Killowatt does not need a search warrant. Have your papers ready.

Connecticut from space ....not nearly bright enough! Unless your Christmas lights can be seen by the space station...you're not trying hard enough. :)

Americanphobia is a nasty, debilitating mental illness. first of all, those countries are much smaller than us, but that doesn’t matter, because the way to create wealth and prosperity, not to mention adequate energy supplies in those countries is for America and other wealthy nations to produce wealth that will help those countries do the same.

How many of the muslims in Tanzania and Ethiopia are going to put up Christmas lights anyway.

Wait until the radical muslim terrorists bomb us for having offensive Christmas lights?

So tell me again, why all the people in El Salvador are sneaking across the US-Mexican border and coming to ‘Merica? Must be our Christmas lights.

perhaps all those NYC leftists should just lock up their Balkan neighborhoods, turn off their electricity, water, sewers, and mutter “I feel sooooo guilty.”

I feel soooooooooo much guilt for people who make no effort to create sane cultures.../s

Leaders in most of these hellholes live like Kings of the Universe... while their people suffer.

Here's my suggestion - have LESS faith in your leaders... distrust the motives of your elites. STOP trusting every two bit government official. Take responsibility for the hellhole your leaders have MADE for you. Then light up your Christmas trees...You too can join the world's Tea Party... we can fight back with better ideas..

It’s not that our having Christmas lights deprives the poor of electricity.

It’s the poor having so little productivity that they can’t pay for it.

I think they come for the little chocolate treats we hang on the trees. But you could be right. All those lights must be a twinkle in their eyes.
