More than 50 million Americans have not even STARTED their Christmas shopping yet and nearly half the country hasn't finished

Despite early retailer promotions meant to entice shoppers, 54 million Americans or or 17 percent have not started holiday shopping about a week before Christmas - one percentage point less than last year, a recent poll found.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll, conducted between December 14 to 18, also found that less than a third of shoppers had completely finished their shopping.

The pace of sales is crucial to retailers who receive a substantial portion of business during November and December.

I put the pro in procrastination but a tiny bit of purchasing throughout the year means that there AIN'T NO WAY I'm waiting in any line for this mess. Throw in a few screaming kids - oh, my. Someone needs to have a special store for everyone who is done.

I’m done. I just got the last shipment of stuff I ordered online including Mr. GG2’s new Missouri Meerscham corn cob pipe and two packs of tobacco he loves. Plus a leather cover for his Fire HD8 and a Bass Pro gift card. Santa is being very very good to Mr. GG2 this year. :-)

I started and finished mine two days ago. It was a $20 burn barrel and giving everyone else homemade jelly. Outside that, the economy won’t have any help from this direction.

We the people would be a lot smarter to lessen our infatuation with shopping for Christmas and indebtedness for Chinese made products, and instead save more for retirement and education of our kids. The former just dumbs us down and ultimately makes our country poorer.

Walking my dog around my neighborhood today, I saw FedEx trucks and UPS trucks everywhere. This is Sunday! But a lot of stuff getting delivered on the last Sunday before Christmas.

I started sewing in October and finished just last week. It was a labor of love, but no one will ever mistake my stuff for store bought.

There aren't any lines to wait in. My prediction is that retailers will be lamenting a weak Christmas sales period when all is said and done.

Amazon.com- The best thing to happen for Christmas shopping since the Sears catalogue. No traffic. No crowds. No lines. The packages come to you and, for a nominal fee, can be gift wrapped in advance.

Pass the eggnog.

I couldn’t find a parking spot in front of Walmart and a big truck was on my butt, so I left.

I'll add to your concise and brilliant post: in most cases lower prices than retail.

I admit I don't have that much shopping to do, but I did 80% of it yesterday on the internet. A few things to pick up one afternoon this week and I'm done. Ho ho ho!

Doesn’t take that long to go to the grocery store and pick up a half dozen or so gift cards. Earns me gas points, too.

50,000,003!

I don’t “do” Christmas.
I make candy and cookies for elderly folk and friends.
(fudge, russian tea cakes, martha Washington candy, divinity).

Those coin christmas cards for my friend’s kids..
