Procol Harum

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Procol Harum (/ˈproʊkəl ˈhɑːrəm/) are an English rock band formed in 1967. They contributed to the development of progressive rock, and by extension, symphonic rock. Their best-known recording is their 1967 hit single "A Whiter Shade of Pale", which is considered a classic of popular music and is one of the few singles to have sold over 10 million copies.[1] Although noted for its baroque and classical influence, Procol Harum's music also embraces the blues, R&B and soul.

In October 2012, the band was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[2]

For anyone not familiar with the band, their two best known songs are Whiter Shade of Pale and Conquistador.

Here is a great live version of Whiter Shade of Pale from just several years ago:

Also, a member of the band from 1967-1971 was Robin Trower. Trower went on to form his own group. Here is, by far, in many people’s opinion, their best work:

Robin Trower - Bridge of Sighs

1.”Day of the Eagle” — 4:59
2.”Bridge of Sighs” — 5:05
3.”In This Place” — 4:28
4.”The Fool and Me” (Trower, James Dewar) — 3:57
5.”Too Rolling Stoned” — 7:29
6.”About to Begin” — 3:43
7.”Lady Love” (Trower, James Dewar) — 3:21
8.”Little Bit of Sympathy” — 4:20

Definitely one of the more creative acts from that era; I was blown away by their performance with the Edmonton Symphony. Nothing like it on the radio, ever.
