Donald Trump Goes Nuclear: Let's Face It, Ted Cruz 'Is a Bit of a Maniac'
PJ Media ^ | 12-13-2015 | Michael van der Galien

Posted on 12/13/2015 7:33:18 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

In what's more evidence that Donald Trump is becoming completely unhinged, he is now stooping so low as to label Tea Party favorite Ted Cruz "a bit of a maniac":

"I don’t think he’s qualified to be president… I don’t think he has the right temperament. I don’t think he’s got the right judgment… You look at the way he’s dealt with the Senate, where he goes in there like a — you know, frankly like a little bit of a maniac. You’re never going to get things done that way."

He added:

"Look, I built a phenomenal business. I’m worth many, many billions of dollars. I have some of the greatest assets anywhere in the world. You can’t walk into the Senate, and scream, and call people liars, and not be able to cajole and get along with people. He’ll never get anything done. And that’s the problem with Ted."

It's rather fascinating that this is coming from the most bombastic and maniacal presidential candidate in history. Almost every single one of his proposals are downright outlandish, and he calls everyone who dares disagree with him "a loser" and worse. See how he smeared Dr. Ben Carson by calling him "pathological."

What's more, Trump's latest jabs at Cruz prove that he has no idea what real conservatives want. Cruz promised them to stand up for their values in Washington D.C., even if the establishment would hate him for it. That's exactly what he's done, and it's one of the main reasons that he's now so popular among Evangelicals, very conservative voters, and those who identify themselves with the Party.

If I was Cruz, I'd politely ask The Donald to attack me even more. After all, this will only end up helping, rather than hurting him.

You're right...in a lot of cases, all pretenses of conservatism have been dropped.

" You can’t walk into the Senate, and scream, and call people liars, and not be able to cajole and get along with people."

Trump was saying the same thing in 2011 when he was interviewed by Rush Limbaugh. Trump said then that we need to operate in a bi-partisan way, reach across the aisle, and get along with the Democrats.

Hoodat pointed out on another thread that he didn't say Democrats should reach across the aisle; only Republicans. That's the customary way liberals operate.

So you have to naturally assume that the folks here saying Trump is right would agree with that same liberal stance from 2011.

Honestly, though, I'm enjoying this. Things are only getting started and they're really going to get interesting. I have no doubt Cruz is having a good chuckle; many men have tried to bait him in the past, and in a less clumsy manner.

Rick Santorum is absolutely correct. Cruz is for amnesty he just doesn't call it that.

Trump suports expediting them back. We have long quota lines. Expediting them back is amnesty.

I like Cruz’s policies better but ultimately he doesn’t have what Trump has to truly shake the political tree which is really what is needed. For that reason I would hope Trump could pull it off. All that said, Cruz should be the Senate Majority Leader and Trump should really push for that. VP would be fine but Cruz would do much better as Majority leader. Palin as Speaker of the House just to mess the the MSM all the more. People shouldn’t be offended by these comments or by those made by Cruz earlier. It’s clear they both respect each other but this is a competition after all. So don’t let the media use this to create war amongst their supporters

I like Cruz. I like Trump. I don’t see the problem here.

This is how Trump talks. And the point of the primaries is (or should be) to shake these things out before the general and put forth the best choice. If a candidate didn’t point out the weaknesses of the others, then that would be a problem.

And like it or not, Trump and Cruz both have weaknesses!

Aside from the "He Said - He Said" aspect of this, I am astonished at the Trump fanatics who are now arguing that Cruz isn't a conciliator, but imply that Trump is.

If you think Cruz won't be able to work with Congress, you're crazy to think that Trump will do any better.

I wish they would both lay off each other, no matter how obvious that might look to the media, because we need both options at this point. But I’d say calling someone who is a sitting senator a “maniac”, especially when he’s had to fight that exact same charge from his own turncoat party, by a man who up to now has not been in the political process, is a little more harmful. Cruz has taken a lot of flak from his own party for years, for being one of the few, sometimes the only, senator who abides by conservative principles and the reasons conservative voters sent him to Congress. I will always defend him because he’s put his own azz on the line when he had something to lose, from his own so-called party colleagues.

He is trying to take Cruz’s numbers down.

This might work with the general election audience, but not with every die hard conservative.

Campaign rhetoric is designed to either hurt the opponent or help the candidate.

Trump has taken chances before, why should he stop now?

Trump seems to me to be a more appealing candidate to draw in Democrats and non-voters to his side in a general election campaign.

Cruz is more of a Constitutionalist and appeals to the literate and staunch conservatism.

We’ll see what happens.

Either one, I think, would be better than Shrillary. And I wouldn’t be sad if these two campaigns eventually shook hands and found a middle way to defeat the Demon Rats.

When are you Trump folks going to realize that if Trump gets the nomination, we will have Hitllary for president? He has insulted or denigrated just about every voting block and now is attacking one of if not THE most conservative Senators in Congress, not to mention his recent attacks on Ben Carson.

I have not seen such a mindless following since Perot that put Billy-boy in the Oval Office. He talks in generalities just like Perot did, "Well, we'll fix it". Trump is so full of himself that he said he has won all the debates. Have you all forgotten how Cruz and even Christie (no go for me) put the media in their place while Trump attacked Kasich (also, no go)?

Think about this: Hillary has had years and years on the political stage and knows how to parse, spin, lie, and exaggerate. Do you really think that Trump has the debate skills to counter her point for point? If you do, then you might as well vote for Hillary because Trump is a buffoon like Perot who both talked in generalities.

I just can't believe so many on this conservative forum believes in such a blow hard.

Ted Cruz is not only the smartest man in the room, he is also the most conservative. Hell, I'd vote for Marco Rubio before Mr. "You're Fired" and that would run contrary to my illegal immigration stance.

Go ahead in your support of Trump and watch another 4 years of Obama's policies. Oh and now, he's talking about a "brokered convention" or third party. Way to go Donald, you megalomaniac. If I have to look at his sourpuss face one more time, my TV is in jeopardy of becoming a side table.

“As a supporter said, the worry is who would trump put on the SC.”

1. His sister is too old.

2. Evidently he knows how to choose the right people, based on the success of his business.

3. If immigration is not controlled along the lines laid down by Trump, who is sitting on the Supreme Court will not matter at all. The country will be over. As Levin pointed out, when you go to a mall, it is like going to a foreign country. Everybody acts like we still live in the 1950s. Cruz is weak on immigration, much weaker than his supporters. This election is our last shot.

Rush Limbaugh is a establishment blow hard. Very over rated by conservatives. I will say Rush was good back in his early years, but ever since he stayed the night at HW White House he hasn’t been the same.
THANKS for my biggest laugh of the day. You must be having premonitions about how Rush is going to cover this.

Like I’ve said before, Trump can’t go after Cruz like he did the other candidates. Any conservative who paid attention likes what Cruz has done. Trump has copied Cruz on many of his positions, like opposing Obamacare as well as copying Cruz’ firebrand style and enhancing it such that as a direct result no one thinks of Cruz as a firebrand anymore.

Trump criticizing Cruz on most points will reveal Trump as an opportunist, not a man of serious policy or someone out there to represent conservatives. If the Trump supporters pile on Cruz, they will expose their movement as being a grossly misinformed, unserious cult-like phenomenon with no connection to the true Tea Party or conservative movement.

There are maybe 2 or 3 lines of attack Trump could successfully use against Cruz, but he hasn’t found them yet. Cuban, ethanol, not getting along with RINOs...all epic fails of attacks.

You obviously don’t understand the Corker bill. Obama was going to seal the deal as an agreement, which a President has the authority to make. The Corker bill made it law that Congress (Not just the Senate) had to approve the Iran deal for it to be valid. We could argue all day about whether it was actually an agreement or a treaty, but the reality was Obama was negotiating it as an agreement. Without Congressional approval, according to law (the Corker bill) the next President can nullify the deal.

If Trump wins by going this route... he will enrage the Cruz supporters who will stay home on election day.

Do you mean like those who refused to vote for McCain and Romney, saddling us with Obama for 8 years ? Nothing reasonable and achievable would ever satisfy those erstwhile voters.

And you think the party WOULD work with Trump? The criticism unloaded on Trump from the establishment goes well beyond what they’ve done to Cruz. Graham told Trump to “go to Hell” for example.

The party would have an EASY time going on TV and saying they disagree with President Trump without worrying people wouldn’t understand. With Cruz, who the general public would see as a “normal Republican,” it would look like petty in-fighting.
