#4 - Australian Shepherd
HUH?
They are great, smart dogs, but they are only medium sized and they are build more for stamina as opposed to strength and they are not ferocious at all. They don’t belong on this list.
The Australian Cattle Dog on the other hand, yes. I think the author got confused.

Not ferocious? Ha! My Aussies don't fit your description. That breed is versatile and can do many jobs. They are each 45 pounds of pure guardian attitude. They are alert to every noise and they make sure I know. I almost pity the fool that ever breaks into my house - those dogs will do some real damage. You know the saying, it is not the size of the dog, but the fight in the dog.
“Australian Shepherd ....not ferocious at all. They donât belong on this list.”
I agree. Smart dog. Lots of good qualities, but a guard dog?
Australian shepherd in my old neighborhood attacked my Mom while she was hanging laundry on the clothesline; we had to beat it off with 2 by 2 poles we used to prop up the lines and a shovel. It was a dog the neighborhood kids had teased, running up and down the fence with sticks clattering on the mesh, and a dog which was stuck alone in its yard most of the time.
