Had to do it. Had to create the thread. The game is too damned good. This thread is reserved for hardcore gamers who play Fallout 4. Norm, KC, TADSLOS and I have hijacked so many threads discussing this game, I felt we needed our own thread.
Fallout 4 is amazing. The content is excessively large. There is so much to explore, you could replay this game 10 times and not find every mission or quest. The characters are so much better fleshed out than any other game I have played. Even the radio announcer of Diamond City Radio will have you doubling over in laughter, he's so inept at radio announcing. :) Your companions will pitch in with consistently new, sometimes insightful, and almost always area- or mission appropriate comments. I even got Piper (the hot Reporter chick) to sleep with me. It took a lot of sweet talking. But now she's in love. "Piper, how do you feel about our relationship?" Her answer: "Blue, this is as close to nirvana as I will ever find. Who knew a jaded reporter like me would find love in a wasteland?"
Fallout 4 is so graphics-intensive that I had to upgrade my video card to the GTX970 from Nividia, and I am so glad I did. 4 gigs of video memory, and a solid GPU array. Now I get 60 FPS (at the best) down to about 30 FOS (at the worst) with occasional dips to an unacceptable 24 FPS when in extremely busy, high clutter city areas with lots of combatants.
Our first topic: I want to mod the songs. I want change the Classical Radio Station to play songs I like.
I have six titles so far, that would fit in this game:
Filter's "Hey Man, Nice Shot" to be triggered during combat
Drowning Pool's "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor", also triggered during combat.
Lil Jon's "Turn Down For What"
Disturbed's "Down With The Sickness"
NIN's "Every Day Is Exactly The Same"
Any other suggestions?
Major breakthrough.
I kept reading up on Crossfire and something wasn’t adding up. I kept seeing guys talking about scary framerates on computer monitors running modded to hell Skyrim in Crossfire on lesser cards than 390s. And at HDMI rez or higher.
The more I dug, the more I learned about this black art. Are you ready for TeH StupidZ?
One of the fixes for the flicker is to run your game in windowed mode. Usually it works for a lot of people. Another fix involves various tweaks to the Skyrim profile that comes with the drivers. Ready for this?
The official Skyrim profile for crossfire shuts off one of the cards regardless of what you tell it. So does running in windowed mode. I was running, unbeknownst to me, on one frigging card.
Now of course, the flicker/microstutter came roaring back. The guilty parties have been isolated. Definitively. Antiailiasing and Depth of Field. Shut them down and you get high 50s/banging 60 (Max on this TV because of it’s refresh rate) with everything turned up over 80% or more. No overclock.
At 1440 there is really no need for antialiasing and DOF is optional anyway. I also traced the moment of the very occasional microstutter. The distant texture loads. It momentarily stutters when the objects snap into view.
Almost got this totally wired.
And FWIW, the same new ‘profile’ applied to unmodded F3, FNV and Oblivion absolutely glue the framerate at 60 with all settings at full. No stutter, no flicker. Smooth.
This...THIS is what troubleshooting Bethesda games naked results in. I wonder if playing naked will help.
I always look for games that we can both play together and I have been able to only find Black Ops that is fun to play cooperatively.
For all those in need of a speed boost, this works spectacularly.

Okay. I finally found Fallout 4 on sale for PS4.
I am back at my 200 year old house. Talking to my 200 year old old butler robot guy.
Words of advice: Play at Hard and move up to Survival at level 40. Caps mean very little in this version of Fallout, except at the beginning. Make your PER and INT a 4 and choose only lockpick and hack skills at first.
Cans and fans have steel, which can be used for equipment repairs. Mechanical and electrical items, such as fans, also contain other useful parts. Don't leave a junkyard empty-handed
Yes, I'm a Wasteland Hoarder.
Thanks for the help. Limited play time. Exploring.
Okay. Time to breathe some new life into this thread.
What is the secret to your success in the Wasteland?
I travel light and quiet. Use VATS constantly as an IFF, but rarely to aim for me. I use almost no explosives, but invested early in Sneak, suppressers, and recon scopes.
Tell us your load out, style, or favorite tactic.
Please ping your list, and add me oh great one.
Now that I think about it, tell us about your favorite kill, too!
I got completely blindsided by a Deathclaw at a location that will remain unnamed.
Luckily, I happened to be carrying a heavily modded plasma gun that hits like a bus.
Halfway through the battle, whether by damage or by Deathclaw ability, I find myself essentially BLIND! So I keep hammering away at the blob outlined by sky, and waddaya know, fresh Deathclaw steak!
I play all the Beth games pretty much identically.
Spend time early in the game leveling up close to home and getting my stats/perks and armor/weaponry as high as I can.
Things like armor/weapon perks come after crafting because if you got teH SkillZ YO!, you can beef up whatever you come across instead of searching or buying.
Ladykiller is a must.
Shotgun and sniper rifle.
Water farming. Sell the water to finance your needs.
Just got a Razer Orbweaver so now it’s time to stop ignoring all the things that were a pain in the ass on a keyboard for me. So far I’m haZzing a happy.
Favorite kill was more a favorite battle. The first time I went into Quincy was with Danse and Power armor. At night.. It looked like Shock and awe/ our trip into Iraq with all the energy weapons in the air. I was listening to the classical radio and just as Ride of the Valkryes started playing, the Brotherhood Vertibirds showed up to play and the miniguns started firing down.
Couldn’t have planned it all better had I scripted the program myself.
You know, there’s all this different armor in Fallout and we can name it whatever we want...but there are no codpieces.
I want a codpiece. A codpiece...of great and mighty justice.
I want to be able to stand atop a pile of dead raiders, look at the one cowering, barely alive in the corner and yell, to the blare of trumpets and choirs of seminaked Valkeryes...
“Tremble in fear maggot! Tremble in fear before...”THE CODPIECE OF GREAT AND MIGHTY JUSTICE!”
But alas, I cannot. It’s so unfair. Clearly Godd Howard (PBUH) did not think this through.
Oh and BTW Laz, Lydia officially lost the title of “She who is most likely to jump in front of a Weapon for no good reason”. That title belongs to your girlfriend now.
I just shot her 6 times in Poseidon Reservoir. I’m fairly she listens to old holotapes of The Cure and The Smiths when I’m not looking.
Norm, How the heck do I connect a generator to a transmitter? PS4
DISINTEGRATION IS THE BEST ALBUM EVER!!!!
Just let me know if there is anything I can do to Lighten the load.
Or You know, if you need anything proofread.
Piper IS perfect for you Norm, you are both Reports and have burdens.
On PC it’s spacebar. You have to select the gen or whatever, then hit space, then it will make a wire. Move that wire to the object you want to connect and hit space again.
Since you’re on Ps 4 I am not sure what button it would be but thats the method.
Key KC, what’s the button?.
