Dazzan said that when they looked at the corpus callosum of those who smoke high-strength cannabis, they found that there was a significant difference in the white matter compared to people who have never tried the drug, and people who smoke low-strength cannabis. The THC chemical acts on cannabinoid receptors which the corpus callosum contains.
The team utilized two scanning methods to examine the corpus callosum in the brains of 56 patients who reportedly experienced a first episode of psychosis, and 43 healthy participants from the local community. One method required the use of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) while the other method used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), researchers said.
The scans discovered that people who used high-potency cannabis daily had a higher mean diffusivity -- a marker of damage in the white matter -- in their corpus callosum. Dazzan said it indicates a problem in the white matter of the brain and makes the corpus callosum less efficient.
"We don't know exactly what it means for the person, but it suggests there is less efficient transfer of information," said Dazzan.

Yea man, but who cares man. What was I talking about again? WOW
Dave’s not here.
So now we know what happened to Obama.
There is no problem since it only affects the White matter, everyone knows that only Black matter matters!
Even the authors admit the same effect was not seen in smokers of Hashish.
Just how accurate could the study be!?!?
Additionally, under 50 people were studied and no controls set for what their brains were like before they smoked all this "skunk".
It's laughable that folks would glom on to this and think there something here.
Which came first?
Where is that ‘Aw geez’ guy?
I’m sure that there are people on this board who may have done...some stupid things...when they were younger and don’t think anything about this. But this stuff is certainly many, many times more powerful than pot was in the 60’s and 70’s. Who knows what that might do. I find it interesting that very few people seem to be seriously and scientifically investigating this.
Another thing that really aggravates me is that common sense will tell anybody that this is smoking just as much as cigarette smoking is, not in terms of nicotine but certainly it will contribute to emphysema, COPD, and so on. I’m not seeing the feds up in arms about it.
I am not a “war on drugs” nut, I realize that is and always will be hopeless, but it might turn out that other illegal drugs are actually SAFER than pot in the long run.
“but it suggests there is less efficient transfer of information”
At this point, the only actual and measurable affect on society might be the slower spread of information of Facebook.
So potent dope messes you up more than crappy dope? Wow, I’m a scientist! I discovered that about 45 years ago.
holy crap... you had the same thing in mind... freaky. That always happens with dwfgator and me... this is a new occurance.
#WhiteMatterMatters
Nice to know......I smoke that crap all the time ....sure...duh...
The effects of chronic alcohol use on the brain are very pronounced and you can tell how badly someone is pickled when you see CAT scans of their shrunken brains. It does seem like there’s still a lot to be learned about how chronic cannabis use affects the brain.
Exactly......duh
You get too high at first, then it’s just a matter of mind over matter.
