That is strange. I was going to suggest some garlic pepper spray, but maybe not. Of course, the garlic, onion, and dab of dish washing liquid, might kill the little beastie if he eats it.
I’d pay the bugs to eat the brussels sprouts. :-)
Well one positive is better than no positive.
I am so glad to hear that. I hope it lasts a long long time.
Will they grow under a maple tree?
I don’t know.
Ah. No, I meant the bulbs themselves. Once they go dormant. I had them in a pot I put in my garage over the summer to protect them from rain and mice ate them up. Augh.
LOL. Now that is funny! So would I. LOL
Anywho lemon harvest is underway. Filled a five gallon bucket last night and picked 9 key limes today. Not bad for the first year on the key lime.
A forecast of 35 for Sunday night. Gonna be iffy with my fall tomatoes. So far I've only picked two and there are a bunch of green ones. Not that fried green tomatoes are a bad thing.
Mostly just hunkering down. Sadly Mrs. Texan was advised that the bone hasn't healed and she is being referred to another guy who probably shouldn't be licensed to drive, much less practice medicine, for a 5th surgery. I am seriously considering a consult with our vet who I have a lot more confidence in.
Seriously prayers are much appreciated.
Prayers up for sure! So sorry to hear about this trouble.
They need full sun.
Got to go now. Catch you later this weekend sometime.
I don’t dig up the bulbs. I leave them in the ground. In my old home, the crocuses came up every year in the yard.
If I suspect trouble from deer or others, I shower the ground with cayenne powder. Had to do it with my pumpkins this year!
I don’t think that works on caterpillars. Rodale’s Organic Life suggests hand-picking the little monsters.
Thank you, we both appreciate it. Gonna have some troubles, no way around them, but always easier when you have prayers.
ty for pingin’ me ! love to all on the garden thread i’ll be home on BF ping away
Here on the San Fran Peninsula, we keep getting small and brief teaser storms that seem to be warning of the big El Niño everybody is yammering about, but nothing big yet. It’s been warm and I still have a smattering of roses blooming. The petunias are just about gone, but geraniums are still growing. Crape Myrtle trees are still blooming a bit as the leaves turn red and drop. Got about 75 daffodil bulbs and 75 tulip bulbs in the last couple weekends. Because we don’t get enough chill, days, we have to put the tulip bulbs in the refrigerator for six weeks. I’ll probably leave them in the ground year-round and take my chances. Forearms got a good workout digging the 150 holes for bulbs. Going to be time to prune roses, buddleia, and Tagedes Lucida (Mexican Marigold) soon.
We got a few green peppers a few days ago from the garden.
I stuffed ‘em last night with ground beef mixture, put
the extra mixture in the cast iron skillet around the
stuffed peppers. Had baked sweet potatoes with butter to
go with them. Yum.
Watch out for voles/moles. I put mine in a pot last year to keep them away from the underground munchers.
I, for one, will NOT be shopping on Thanksgiving afternoon or Black Friday. Never have and never will! I much rather be playing in the dirt, picking my vine ripe tomatoes, green beans and tending my sugar snap peas that are coming along to provide me a great treat come January! :) Winter in Florida does give us some more “cold weather crop” goodness. And sugar snap peas do great during Florida winters! :)
