Wow! Iowa at #5! If you are a Golden Domer hater, like me, is it time to start worrying they will make the playoff. Their only challenging game coming up is traveling to Palo Alto to play Stanford.

Interesting to see which conferences aren’t getting a lot of respect.

If ND wins out..beats Stanford..they make the playoffs..and TWO of the POWER 5 conferences get shut out..
which all but guarantees that within 2 years they'll move to an 8 team playoff

It’s got to have been a lot of years since the Hawks have been rated this high.

Can’t disagree much with this, except one thing: As the still undefeated reigning national champ, the Buckeyes deserve the 2 slot over Alabama, with their ugly loss to an unranked Ole Miss. I say this as an avowed Irish fan and proud OSU hater.

Iowa ranked #3 going into the 2003 Orange Bowl, 2002 season, where they got crushed by USC.

Yea, watched that game 38-17L if I remember correctly.

Maybe they will be 2nd next week if they can win and settle the QB situation down.

Eight has always been the right number. One team per conference; no runners-up; an automatic bid for the power conferences and a couple of spots reserved for the best of the rest. Four is not enough. Four will always leave a couple of worthy teams out due to arbitrary poll results and accidents of the schedule. More than eight is too many, as it would include two and three loss teams and force the inclusion of conference runners-up, which undermines the importance of conference play.

We were told last year that Florida State should be in because they were undefeated, even though the ACC was pretty weak. Now they have Alabama and ND over several teams that are undefeated. There is a strong SEC/ ND bias with these guys. It is looking rather bogus.
To: ken5050
It needs to be an 8 team playoff; there's too much politics in picking just four teams, with eight there will be a lot of disagreement about the specific order, but teams that should have a shot won't be shut out.

I actually think that Stanford beats ND, and that the Buckeyes will lose to either UM or MSU, and possibly both.
also, having clinched the SEC East, the Gators will lose to FSU..and in the Big 12, Baylor, OU, OSU and TCU will all end up with at least one loss.
In short, I'm predicting TOTAL CHAOS.....

The SEC bias is there..I'll admit it..and it is warranted. You can't ignore the fact that they beat each other's brains in week after week, and that takes a toll, as well as hurts the records, and the rankings.
Take the SEC West. If Ohio State, or Iowa, or Clemson..had to play Bama, Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, TAMU, Ole Miss, and MSU this season, what do you think their records would be?

Forgot to add..I'm predicting that Auburn beats Bama. War Eagle is playing well lately..and rolling the Tide would make their season. Then you could see an SEC championship game of Florida (having just lost to FSU playing Bama, having just lost to Auburn, and then the SEC champ NOT makign the playoffs...
AND THEN ALL HELL REALLY BREAKS LOOSE!!
