CROYDON, N.H. (AP) -- Hilary and Shane Lentz were hooked on the idea of a tiny house, but they weren't sure the reality would be so appealing.
Their curiosity led them to the hills of New Hampshire, where a business that started at Harvard University rents out tiny houses for $99 a night. The company, Getaway, has drawn visitors from afar who come to sample life in a 160-square-foot house before they dive headlong into the lifestyle.
"It's a way to test-drive tiny house living," said Jon Staff, the founder and CEO of Getaway. "We operate them a little bit like hotel rooms in the woods."
Across the country, more businesses are letting the curious try out tiny living. Caravan, a hotel in Portland, Oregon, offers six tiny houses ranging from 84 to 170 square feet, for $145 a night. Dozens of tiny houses are available through vacation rental websites, posted by their owners.
Definitions vary, but some say a tiny house is anything smaller than 400 square feet. Advocates tout the environmental and financial perks of tiny living.

i like it. i could drop one in my back yard for my model building hobby room though i wouldn’t be able to store my model stash in it.
Me too, and his neighbors could be Bill, Hillary, Obama, Sandy, Harry, Nancy, Eric, and many others, they could have a whole community. It would be great.
And don't forget iGore's 100ft. houseboat.
DANG! We lived there too in the summers! Except a tiny future bathroom that housed the fishin boat’s outboard motor.
Eventually the women in the family got tired of the rustic bathroom facilities.... so the guys put a toilet in with the outboard motor and a shower stall on the back porch. LOL! Best place in the world.
Buy a fricken trailer instead.
They spend thousands upon thousands upon thousands for "cute", but in the end it is still too small and impracticable. A perfect metaphor for our family hating, child hating, narcissistic society.
Now that the kids are moving on, it is big and quiet. But on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, and in the summer, it is full.
A home is meant to be an anchor for one's family. It is amazing to me how quickly our society forgets that.
Most of my family has been transient for three (going on 4) generations now. Follow the military, follow the money, follow the boom, move near someone who’s settled for awhile...
For most of my kids’ lives, we had about 1800 sq ft (for 4 people, a dog and 2 cats). Too much cleaning.
When the kids grew up, hubs and I downsized to 1400 sq ft, then he went to Korea and it was too much house for me and a cat. It just wasn’t worth the expense.
I downsized to 720 sq ft. That was about just right for me. Now that hubs is back, it’s a little crowded. I would like one more bedroom and a dining space.
So, 1200 sq ft is about perfect for the two of us, but I could see us doing fine with less if it were set up practically. (And if the cats could go outside)
I have a tiny house

I do too, it’s 20’X24’ 480 sq. ft. plus it has a loft. I call it my storage shed.
This is for you (sepcifically at 4:14).

Here’s some even tinier houses if 160 sq ft is too big:
I am sure Barry Seotoro and Jorge approve.
Thank you for sharing. :)
(reminds me of my uncle so much you don’t even know)
My only son (and yes, he is handsome) has a girlfriend who is doing missionary work in Africa as he studies Engineering.
They performed this song. They are not the original writers or anything, but you should ave heard them sing.
