Many have remarked on the messed up fonts now appearing in so many posts. This can be avoided, though it is a bit of a bother.
These bad fonts stem from cutting and pasting apostrophes (') and quotation marks (").
The marks produced from cutting and pasting these marks has always looked different from those caused by hitting the key on one's keyboard. Up until now, though, when posted they have been turned into apostrophes and quotation marks.
That is no longer happening. While typing the marks on one's keyboard continues to work fine, cutting and pasting them does not. The program is not interpreting them as apostrophes and quotation marks and is turning them into something else.
This can be corrected by simply deleting the cut-and-pasted marks and typing them in instead. When posted these come across perfectly normal. It's a pain having to do it and it takes a little time, but if you really want the text to look like it used to this is what you have to do.
It should be easy enough, we should only be posting one paragraph of an article anyway.
Are you looking for one that changes God to G-d?
And hyphens (”-”). Don’t forget the hyphens!
Be nice to your FReeper neighbors. Preview ... and correct those nagging characters. Because doggone it, your FReeper FRiends are worth it!
BUMP!!!
Thank you, I’ll do it.
Of course, you have to examine the text to be quoted to try and determine what the character was supposed to be in the first place.
So, why did this suddenly start?
I assume this would be noted in Preview, correct?
Try using a simple text editor. Paste them into notepad the copy notepad to FR. Copy from a.web page uses html unless you have some kind.of copytext add in.
I find (using a Mac) that even typing a quotation mark is no go. I have to resort to HTML commands to display quote symbols.
So what changed?
Why is this happening?
Is there a fix?
You can copy the text into a text editor like Notepad to replace smart quotes (”curly” quotes), smart apostrophes (”curly” apostrophes), and em dashes (long dashes) with regular quotes, regular apostrophes, and double dashes respectively. You can bulk replace by copying your post into Notepad and using the “Replace All” command.
The horror of life in America!!

Jim is aware of this. John is working on it. It’s not an easy fix.
Apparently, there was an upgrade installed to the system software last week and something snafu’d internally. John’s working on it, but has not found the solution yet.
GMTA. See post 15. :)
