Bacon, ham and sausages rank alongside cigarettes as a major cause of cancer, the World Health Organisation has said, placing cured and processed meats in the same category as asbestos, alcohol, arsenic and tobacco.
The report from the WHOs International Agency for Research on Cancer said there was enough evidence to rank processed meats as group 1 carcinogens because of a causal link with bowel cancer.
It places red meat in group 2A, as probably carcinogenic to humans. Eating red meat is also linked to pancreatic and prostate cancer, the IARC says.
The IARCs experts concluded that each 50-gram (1.8-ounce) portion of processed meat eaten daily increased the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%.
For an individual, the risk of developing colorectal cancer because of their consumption of processed meat remains small, but this risk increases with the amount of meat consumed, said Dr Kurt Straif, head of the IARC monographs programme. In view of the large number of people who consume processed meat, the global impact on cancer incidence is of public health importance.
The decision from the IARC, after a year of deliberations by international scientists, will be welcomed by cancer researchers but it triggered an immediate and furious response from the industry, and the scientists it funds, who rejected any comparison between cigarettes and meat.
What we do know is that avoiding red meat in the diet is not a protective strategy against cancer, said Robert Pickard, a member of the Meat Advisory Panel and emeritus professor of neurobiology at Cardiff University. The top priorities for cancer prevention remain smoking cessation, maintenance of normal body weight and avoidance of high alcohol intakes..
But the writing has been on the wall for ham, bacon and sausages for several years.

Eat more bacon~!
WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan and her H1N1 scare in 2010
The study is from WHO. It’s a UN predominantly muzzie group. Bacon is the king of foods.
I want to see a study that compares the life expectancy of people who eat meat with vegans, vegetarians and non-gluten eaters.
Saw a cartoon recently showing two women at a cafe table. One says, “I’ve only been gluten-free for a month but I’m already really annoying!”
Every Sunday.
Did you guys know you can cook bacon in the oven. Not as messy and then you can work on the rest of the breakfast.
Just lay the bacon flat on any pan oven to 350 takes about half hour. And the house still gets that great smell.
No rice except in cabbage rolls. Chips...1/2 bag a year. Very little bread.
Chocolate....from my cold, dead hands....
I do binge....That pumpkin pie I bought yesterday is half gone.
As with all claims one needs to ask how they researched it. Shoddy “science” abounds and the result is fad after fad after fad. What happened to the the determination of honest research to dig down to the truth in multiple independent ways to be sure of what they were seeing?
A group of 22 scientists from the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France evaluated more than 800 studies from several continents about meat and cancer.
and lately we found out a lot of studies are a pile of manure
I guess since the cholesterol scam has been busted they decided to bring back the red meat, smoked meat cancer scam. Oh and don’t forget the earthquake, tsunami, drought, flood, globull warming, globull freezing, climate change, overpopulation, starvation, obesity ( I especially liked they worked starvation and obesity into the Tomorrowland propaganda line), we’re all gonna die scares.
I do believe the U.N. will publish only that which will benefit an agenda that benefits their existence, and their goals of World governance.
This WHO finding, publication to me reinforces my belief as it’s obviously beneficial to the Muslim constituency the U.N. seems to covet.
I know, but it’s more fun frying it in the pan
“Eat more bacon~!”
Yeah, and dont listen to these pukes who keep saying “you are what you eat’. Sure, I;m a bacon who has money in the bank a hot blond girlfriend. It’s great being a bacon...
Some people are just more predisposed thank others to various cancers and other diseases.
Same ilk that brought you global warming/climate change.....
Governments realized they had a good racket going when they sold the public on the second hand smoke bit. Only natural that they cast the net further.
The latest study to debunk the vegan longevity myth comes out of Graz, Austria. Using data from the Austrian Health Interview Series, researchers from the Institute for Social Medicine and Epidemiology compared omnivores with vegans, ovo-lacto vegetarians and pesco-vegetarians (near vegetarians who consumed some fish, eggs and/or milk) of similar sex, age and socio-economic status. They found the vegetarians suffered from more chronic conditions including allergies, asthma, anxiety, depression, diabetes, migraines, osteoporosis, heart disease and cancer. They had more doctors visits, a higher need for health care, dimmer assessments of their own health, and poorer social relationships. While the researchers did not report they were home crying because they werent invited anywhere fun or dangerous, they found vegetarian drinking was less likely to involve alcohol.
Breakfast, or supper done right, done the Southern way.
Reminds me of the tests on STEAK fifty years ago. The scientists concluded that a grilled steak has carcinogens that will give you cancer. After the tests were done the scientists ate the steaks.
You have to eat 20,000 steaks at one setting to get enough carcinogens to get cancer.
