The final poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here
The Verge ^ | October 18, 2015 | Bryan Bishop

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in just two months, and today it's finally time to see the movie's official poster. No, not the teaser poster from last year, and not the promo item handed out at D23; this is the real deal. The poster features the key members of the cast that audiences have met thus far: Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, with some other faces that you just might recognize (hi, Han and Leia).

What's even more interesting is the sight of some sort of orb in the upper right corner, complete with a glowing red eye. 30 years ago, I would have said this was some sort of riff on the Death Star, but given the secrecy that J.J. Abrams has been able to pull off up until this point it could be almost anything. A new weapon? A new character? We don't know right now, but odds are it will be revealed when the next trailer for the film is shown tomorrow during Monday Night Football.

Pass, they made a mess out of it after the first couple and unwatchable.

Stuff for kiddies.

And some kind of new Death Star, too, apparently.

They allowed Moochelle on the poster???

She's the Wookie, right above Han and Leia.

Well yes and no. See Lucas tried to make the film appealable to everybody. So you have "kiddy stuff" side by side totally boring political stuff, side by side horrible death scenes, murder, suggested rape, a silly romance that's just stuck in there, cute clothes for the women to look at, and Samuel Jackson playing a character that is the exact opposite of every character he has ever played just to appeal to minorities.

The movies were complete trash, of course, but it was a film series that was made for more than just kiddies.

No, Luke’s in it. We caught half a glimpse in the second teaser trailer, and it was his voiceover at the beginning. His absence from the teasers AND the official poster is pretty interesting. I believe Hamill signed on to Episode VIII, too.

Mark Hamill is in it, just not the poster. At least he was in the trailers.

Let's hope Jar Jar Binks is in it otherwise it won't be worth watching.

Sadly there can never be a follow-up to that masterpiece of Brooks. Half of the cast is dead, and Dark Helmet retired from acting.

I believe Hamill’s character is on the poster, he’s the one in the mask and hoodie.

I see many weapons. Can they not use the Force to bring about peace? Why must Hollywood liberals encourage the use of weapons in their movies. There must be a ban!....

I expect the movie will make a billion just because it is a new Star Wars and will have original actors it in (how big a part?) but the CGI and the stupid costumes and the new disnefied actors are so Disney. What is with a light saber with a handle that would burn off the users arm or gut themselves?

That opening scene of the rebel ship fleeing the empire was extremely well done. In one shot we saw that a tiny rebel ship, dirty, fleeting from a massive empire ship that seemed to get bigger and bigger and bigger. We knew, in that instant, how challenging the rebel cause was before a word of dialogue was spoken. Brilliantly done.

What happened to you, George Lucas?
