"Beyond free"... Microsoft will PAY you to upgrade to Windows 10 ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

You’ll get a kick out of this — Microsoft thinks Mac gear is worth more. Who knew?

Let me guess, it’s funded by a Nigerian prince.

Wow, better hurry! You have to make the purchase of the Win10 computer by Oct 20 -- that's this coming Tuesday.

Nah, it's legit. Here's the page that explains it: https://easytradeup.com/us/en/pages/tradeup/how-it-works

Lots of Mac owners are going to ditch their crummy ol’ obsolete machines to get on the Windows Ten bandwagon. Get paid to upgrade!

Why do they want us so much for us to take this new operating system?

Marketing strategy. It is worth more to get your opponent’s gear off the market than computers running your software.

Planned obsolescence is Apple’s downfall. The fanbots, fembots and manobots go buy an iphone and 12 months later it is obsolete, so they have to buy an iPhone 6 or 6s. The fanbots are spinning like hamsters in a cage on a treadmill. Meanwhile the ghouls in Cupertino collect the tolls on all this foolishness. That’s all they are. Toll collectors.

My take is that there is more value in moving you into their Windows operating “environment” for future sales and service, not the hardware value. They pay less for MS products because you are already in the family.

Sounds like the old inkjet printer “consumables” model. Hook you with a cheap printer, nail you with toner.

Remember -- Windows 10 is "Windows As A Service". Don't you ever fail to apply all the Windows Updates.

Microsoft's Tyer Myerson said that "once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device at no charge."

What does that mean, really? Users must keep their devices supported. "Supported" means apply ALL the updates. ALL of them.

"Updates are cumulative, with each update built upon all of the updates that preceded it. A device needs to install the latest update to remain supported," Microsoft states in fine print.

http://www.maximumpc.com/microsoft-addresses-windows-10-subscription-fears-with-10-year-support-commitment/

You didn't apply all of your Windows Updates? You lose -- your Windows starts costing you money at that point.

I looked for a link to a site where you could buy a sense of humor but, alas, no luck.

Howdy Admin Mod,

Just curious... how come the "[United Kingdom]" prefix on the title? The article's topic and Microsoft's offer applies to U.S. customers as well as Brits. I've posted scores of threads from The Register in the past, so I assume it's not just that the website is from the U.K.

Did I do something wrong?

Thanks.

Yeah, I LOL'ed too. I just figured I'd use the comment as an excuse to post the link to the actual offer page.

Now, come on, a bright fellow like you has read the threads and stories about all the data that Windows 10 "harvests". They wouldn't be doing it if they didn't mean to make money from it. Right?

I assume you just left off the /sarc (or maybe the /wink) tag on your comment. :-)
