He stopped riding. If you stop riding, most dogs become bored and leave (nothing to chase).
This one didn’t.
I would carry raw hamburger.
You do realize that “effectively had no teeth” does not mean the same thing as “had no teeth”. The dog’s teeth were worn down. That doesn’t mean he was toothless.
One Nam vet I know with PTS couldn’t be in the woods. Iraq and ‘stan vets hate the sand. I can see him being comfortable in the forest with people he trusts.
Yep, and without his service animal to calm him down if he has an episode.
I guess you have never had a dog that liked chewing rocks. The big canine teeth are what get warn down. Not tht scary, if you still have wits.
Trajectory of the bullet will tell whether the dog was shot during an attack.
So you agree that you erroneously argued that he had no teeth?
The dog should never have been off his master’s property. Given his particular history, he should have been indoors or kenneled.

My mom lives in this town. I will have to ask her about the incident.
Sounds to me like the bicyclist was hunting with from his bike with a shotgun using himself as an attractant. Then to swat the dog in the hind end. This dude needs some reflection time in the crow bar motel as a former gun owner. It breaks my heart to read senseless stories like this.
Sad,I have stopped walking my dog where I live.
Too many dogs unattended by owners and that are able to escape from yards.I luckily have a very big fenced yard that has to suffice for her activity.
I have seen too many owners running into the vets saying”we were out walking our dog,and she was attacked by a pit bull”.
Bessler questions the bicyclists account, saying the dog was shot in the rear. He has his story, he told the Tribune. I know my dog. I have my story.
I mean, its way too soon, he told the paper. I mean, its every time I see him everywhere that I go. Because he was, he was with me almost everywhere I went and he was always playing and he was always ... he always wanted to play and everybody loved him. Everybody could pet him. Bessler said.
Bessler added jokingly, nobody had problems with him unless they had a ball.
In the old west this would have been taken care of. Not these days.
So the neighbor who witnessed the scene was lying? We’re to believe the owner who wasn’t there?
Yep, responsible dog ownership would have prevented this.
I’m now on my fifth dog with my fourth dog, who’s nearly 10, still going strong. I love them and need them so much I always get a new puppy a soon as the oldest passes. Having a new puppy doe a great deal to distract from the loss of the old dog, even though nothing can really make up for it.
You’re a liberal. Aren’t you.
It sounds like wrong place, wrong time for both the dog and the bicyclist. FWIW, in a case like that, (after once tumbling over the handlebars due to a dog) I used to get off the bike and get past the dog.
