Democratic Congressional Staffer Arrested After Beating Gay Lover With Shovel

Police arrested a congressional staffer to Democratic Rep. Sander Levin Oct. 8 following a bizarre altercation where he attacked a lover with a shovel.
According to a police report, Tim Foster assaulted a black man described as his boyfriend with a small red and black shovel, leaving the man so badly injured that he was hospitalized with scrapes and bruises across his neck and torso, Roll Call reported Tuesday.
The dispute began at about 12:30 a.m., with the two getting into an argument at a house in Baltimore which soon escalated to physical violence on Foster’s part, according to Roll Call. Making the domestic situation even more surreal is that Foster’s wife apparently played a role in the fight:
Foster put his boyfriend in a choke hold and stated, “I want to kill you. Die dirty faggy,” the man later told police. Foster released him, then allegedly grabbed a stainless kitchen knife. As the boyfriend fled toward the stairs, Foster chased him and warned, “When you reach the fifth step, I am going to stab you.”
Foster lunged at his boyfriend with the knife. But Foster’s wife “got in the way” and the knife then fell to the floor, the report states.
The boyfriend told police he attempted to escape the property, but was again assaulted by Foster. This time, Foster struck him in his upper back with a small black and red shovel. Foster continued to assault the man until he got into his vehicle, the report states.
Foster was released Friday after being jailed overnight, but he faces charges for second-degree assault and the use of a dangerous weapon.
Foster has worked for Levin, who represents Michigan’s 9th District, for seven years, and currently serves as his online communications manager. Levin’s office placed Foster on unpaid leave but otherwise declined to comment on the matter.
