ROELAND PARK, Kan. -- The Roeland Park Police Department is making headlines again -- for good deeds.
In July, an officer helped a young mother who was caught stealing diapers. She was later booked on federal drug charges, but officers say nothing is going to stop them from being good Samaritans.
What one officer did this week, is proof. Following a call for suspicious person at a park, officers arrived to find a greater story.
Sometimes I have to sleep outside because I want to keep my job. That's just how it is, Samuel Meixueiro said.

Not a vagrant, but a sex offender...
Thanks for posting...
Making the world a better place, one person and one kind act at a time.
You are welcome. I am surprised the police did not check him before publicizing their good deed. He is listed on on the MO Highway Patrol website. I feel somewhat bad I have become so cynical.
I complained because I had no shoes. Then I met a man with no feet, and I’m thinking, I bet if he’d had shoes he’d still have his feet.
If he’s got a job, good for the cop
Now he’s got a bike and an informal mentor mentor
I guess I am a bit cranky & cynical today... Have a good evening.
Thanks for the additional info, Pgh
No wonder he couldn’t get a job....and was so motivated to keep the one he had.
In more ways than one, this is very sad.
I feel like Mark Zuckerberg right now.
I admit I’m a big cop basher on FR....and here I thought I was making amends by noting a cop who did some good. Bummer.
{{sigh}}
Without their willingness to sacrifice their lives to do their job, every town, and city in the nation would be like Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, Ferguson, Oakland, Los Angeles, and on and on and on.
Cops are the ones who make life in our communities livable. They are not the problem. The criminals and thugs are.
Like this guy .....he's your typical *bad apple* who gives policing a bad name....Branford Police Officer Joseph Peterson [CT]:
If you're going to use that standard, there are bad soldiers, bad teachers, bad mechanics, bad stockbrokers, bad accountants, bad hedge-fund managers, bad politicians, bad lawyers, bad doctors and on and on and on. It means nothing when judging our law enforcement officers. The vast majority of them are good people and do their jobs positively.
There will always be bad cops and there will always be people like you who only see the bad in society and try to make a case that it is the norm.
I made a mea culpa and *you* turned into more than it is.
You picked the wrong person to beat your dead horse.
No really, you can stop now. Meh.
You win.
Well, now aren't we the cocky one? I guess I misunderstood what you were trying to say.
There is no "I win" or "you lose" here. Only that we can agree that this misunderstanding is over and we can move on.
Espero que tenga un buen día.
